Revista Adelante Felicita a John A. Pérez
La Junta Legislativa Demócrata votó el mes pasado para apoyar al asambleista John A. Pérez (D-Los Angeles) para servir como su próximo vocero. La junta votó sobre esta nominación en el mes de diciembre. John Pérez, un Demócrata y abogado de profesión en California, se convertirá en el primer vocero abiertamente gay de la junta estatal. La comunidad gay através de todo el estado inmediatamente elogió la elección de Pérez, calificándola como un momento histórico no solamente para el estado sino para toda la nación.
“No podría sentirme más orgulloso de John. Es como si hubiera nacido para ser Vocero”, dijo Eric C. Bauman, Vice Presidente del Partido Demócrata en California y Presidente del Partido en el Condado de Los Angeles. “Él tiene un vigor intelectual extraordinario, combinado con política limpia e instintos de táctica, además de años de experiencia como organizador y negociador. Cuando combinas esas cualidades con el buen gusto de un hombre gay, tienes al hombre ideal para el primer vocero legislativo abiertamente gay de la nación. Cuando John ascienda como Vocero, su imagen ante la comunidad será un increible modelo a seguir para nuestros jóvenes, especialmente para los chicos de color; los adultos tendrán un campeón sin miedo en el que pueden confiar en los asuntos que son correctos. Pérez como el próximo Vocero,” dijo Luis López, Presidente de HONOR PAC. A tan solo un año de haberse aprobado la Proposición 8, la selección unánima de el Asambleista Pérez por la Junta Legislativa Demócrata para este importante liderazgo es muy representativo para los Californianos pero quizás especialmente para los jóvenes latinos GLBT que buscan aceptación, oportunidades en servicio público, y ejemplos a seguir.”

California Assembly elects openly gay, Latino speaker. Adelante Magazine Congratulates John A. Pérez
The Assembly Democratic Caucus voted last month to support Assemblymember John A. Pérez (D-Los Angeles) to serve as its next Speaker. The full Assembly will vote on the nomination this month. John Pérez, a first-term Democratic lawmaker in California, will become the first openly gay speaker of the state Assembly. Gay community advocates across the state immediately praised Pérez’s election, calling it a historic moment for not just the state but for the nation.
“I could not be prouder of John. It seems as if he was born to be Speaker”, said Eric C. Bauman, Vice Chair, California Democratic Party and Chair, Los Angeles County Democratic Party. “He has the extraordinary intellectual vigor, combined with keen political and tactical instincts and years of experience as an organizer and negotiator. When you combine those assets with the fine taste of a gay man, you have the perfect guy for our nation’s first openly gay legislative speaker.
