Alberto: ¿De qué trata Operación Osmín?
Osmín: Es una mezcla entre entrenamiento militar y de super héroe, la técnica mia se llama “la técnica del super héroe”, es un entrenamiento intensivo, bien fuerte. En realidad no uso los gimnasios, uso los bancos, las bicicletas, la calle, los tanques de basura, todo lo que hay alrededor mio es parte del gimnasio, para mi el mundo es un gimnasio. Vas a ver en mi programa como cambio a las personas en 30 días, con un régimen fuerte, militar, va a haber momentos en que se mean, se quieren cagar…con mi técnica solamente deben comer agua, pescado y ensalada.

Alberto: ¿Cómo pasaste de ser un ex-oficial cubano a ser el entrenador que eres hoy en día?
Osmín: Desde niño era deportista en Cuba, seguí las peleas callejeras, entré a ser un oficial de la marina en Cuba, ahí me puse en una buena disciplina, me gusta siempre ponerme retos, poner mi vida en peligro, salí de la marina de Cuba y vine en balsa a los EE.UU. y cuando llegué dije que tenía que desempeñarme en lo que yo sé, comencé a ser entrenador para algunos artistas tanto en Miami como aquí en California. Entrenaba 8 horas al día y quería darle al mundo lo que yo he aprendido, hasta ahora nadie me ha ganado en lo que es entrenamiento duro.

Alberto: Hay mucha gente que cada año nuevo se pone la resolución de hacer ejercicio pero a los pocos días terminan desistiendo, ¿cómo es el plan que deben seguir para que no crean que no pueden hacerlo?
Osmín: El plan es bien importante, y bien claro, este año para todo mundo el principio va a ser pescado, ensalada y agua. Por 30 días sigue mi entrenamiento y siéntate a mirar Operación Osmín todas las semanas para que aprendas todos los ejercicios que hago yo.

Alberto: ¿Cuánto tiempo por día tú recomiendas que las personas hagan tus ejercicios?
Osmín: Por lo menos una media hora a una hora todos los días, 30 días de entrenamiento, 30 días de comida (agua, pescado, ensalada).

Alberto: ¿Por qué tus promotores dicen que tu entrenamiento es el más sicótico del mundo?
Osmín: Porque tengo una forma militar bien personal, en mi trabajo yo me he dado cuenta que la gente siempre tiene excusas como: “no puedo hacerlo”, “estoy cansado”, “no tengo dinero”, “me siento mal”, “no puedo llegar”…para todo eso yo digo que no, que todo eso es mentira, a mi no mi importa nada de eso, no hay excusa para nada, si quieres, yo te voy a ayudar en lo que te hace falta pero te va a costar, te va a costar lágrimas, sangre, risas, lo que sea.

Alberto: Entre las cosas que van a tener que hacer los participantes en tu programa está “gimnasia en un traje de gorila”, “correr por la jungla descalzos”, “ejercitarse bajo la tormenta”, “intentar escapar de un tren que viene de frente”, ¿no es demasiado riesgozo eso?
Osmín: A veces tú te encuentras con piedras en la calle y hay que recogerlas, nada es perfecto, hay momentos de miedo, de todo tipo, en un entrenamiento de super héroe cualquier cosa puede pasar.

Alberto: Para personas que no tienen membresía de gimnasio y tienen la determinación de hacer ejercicio ¿con qué cosas comunes de nuestro entorno se puede ejercitar?
Osmín: Se puede usar la silla de tu casa para hacer plancha arriaba abajo, el sofá de tu casa para hacer plancha, puedes mover tus muebles alrededor para hacer ejercicio, puedes hacerlo alrededor de tu casa, puedes brincar 100 veces, puedes cortar la hierba de tu casa, puedes limpiar tu casa de arriba abajo. De la puerta pa’ fuera de tu casa tienes los bancos, sébete a los árboles, coge una escoba y recogedor y limpia la cuadra de tu casa de arriba abajo, si ves un carro que esté parado en medio de la calle ayuda a empujarlo, corre, nada…cantidad de cosas para que puedas moverte todos los días, para que pierdas peso y estés en un buen estado de salud.

Alberto: Y por supuesto es igualmente importante cuidar lo que se come y toma.
Osmín: Sí, siempre en este tipo de entrenamiento la persona tiene que limpiarse, tiene que hacer un cambio radical, mis clientes han tenido problemas desde claustrofobia hasta diabetes, colesterol, etc. y todo se ha arreglado. Pescado, ensalada y agua.

Barr propone que nunca es tarde para identificar nuestro “genio” y utilizarlo para desarrollar todo nuestro potencial. El diccionario Webster define genio como una inclinación natural, y el poder intelectual manifestado en actividad creativa. Peter Barr estudió a los genios de la historia e identifico a Leonard Da Vinci, Edison, Einstein entre otros y encontró que una de las características que tienen en común su persistencia. Einstein dijo que no consideraba que era inteligente pero que se quedaba pegado a resolver los problemas más tiempo que otra gente. Edison tuvo 10.000 experimentos (no fracasos) hasta que inventó la lámpara eléctrica. ¿Cuán persistente eres tú en tu vida? ¿Te das por vencido fácilmente en lo que emprendes? Barr sostiene que cuando alineas tu genio conscientemente y consistentemente, abres un portal a una inteligencia universal (lo puedes llamar Dios, poder superior, universo, etc.) que permite alcanzar el verdadero éxito en el mundo. Es importante aclarar que éxito es subjetivo y tú eres el único que puede definir lo que es el éxito para ti en tu vida.

¿Cómo identificar el genio de cada uno para alinearlo a esa inteligencia universal? Peter Barr sugiere que hay 6 elementos clave para identificar y desarrollar el genio que cada uno lleva dentro y todos empiezan con la letra “P”: potencial, pasión, propósito, paradigmas, plan y persistencia. El potencial incluye todas nuestras habilidades naturales, lo que nos es fácil hacer. Por ejemplo, a algunas personas les cuesta poco trabajo armar cosas con sus manos. Mi sobrino de 8 años es capaz de armar complejos juguetes en muy poco tiempo. Algunas personas tienen mayor facilidad que otras para aprender idiomas. ¿Cuáles son tus talentos? La pasión es lo que nos entusiasma y nos encanta hacer. Puede o no estar relacionada con nuestras habilidades. Por ejemplo, podemos ser excelentes en matemáticas pero eso no es necesariamente lo que nos gusta hacer. Muchas veces no aprovechamos toda la capacidad que tenemos para hacer cosas que nos gustan. Por ejemplo, tengo un amigo que es un excelente artista y que tiene una capacidad innata para el arte pero no le dedica tiempo a su trabajo creativo porque está muy ocupado con otras responsabilidades.

Propósito es lo que nos da satisfacción y sentido a la vida. Para algunas personas su propósito es trabajar para hacer de este mundo uno mejor para todos. Otras personas pueden dedicar su vida al arte, entretenimiento, o la ciencia. Los paradigmas son todas las creencias de cómo funciona el mundo y qué es y qué no es posible. Si no creemos en nuestra capacidad de conseguir nuestras metas, que podemos conseguir el apoyo que necesitamos, que es realmente posible conseguir lo que queremos, estas ideas van a ser un obstáculo y se produce una profecía autocumplida. Creamos eso que no queremos que suceda. El plan implica objetivos y pasos para lograrlos con fechas. Finalmente, persistencia implica mantener la visión de lo que queremos y no olvidarlo pese a los obstáculos y circunstancias. No darnos por vencidos y seguir trabajando aún cuando enfrentemos obstáculos.

Te invito a que identifiques y reflexiones sobre estos seis elementos en tu vida y que veas cómo puedes alinearlos y desarrollar un plan de acción para conseguir tus metas en el 2012.

Alberto: Descríbenos lo que es Gummy Bears L.A.
Roberto: Dos de los fundadores (Albert Ontiveros y Edgar Calderón) quisieron crear una noche para los jóvenes latinos que no se sentían felices con ellos mismos, porque no entraban en la categoría que viene siendo West Hollywood (personas delgadas, altas, sin vello, que van al gimnasio todos los días, que comen sus proteinas…), asi que surgió un grupo que aprecia lo que viene siendo un “Bear”, el grupo inició entre septiembre/octubre del año pasado.

Alberto: ¿Cuál es la meta de ustedes como grupo?
Roberto: Que toda la gente como nosotros se sienta agusto, felices por ser de la forma que son.

Alberto: ¿Cómo se están organizando y qué pasos están tomando para lograr esto?
Roberto: Mucha gente nos está agredeciendo por mostrarles que hay otra cultura fuera de lo que viene siendo West Hollywood. Queremos ser legalmente una organización, para poder ayudar a diferentes organizaciones con causas benéficas. Nuestro primer evento será el 13 de marzo, será en MJs y vamos a recaudar fondos para ayudar a Junior Blind of America, son jóvenes que son ciegos. Después de eso vamos a hacer un evento en cada estación del año. También queremos ayudar a organizaciones que ayudan a personas con cáncer y a personas de la tercera edad, entre otros.

Alberto: ¿Qué actividades en específico piensan hacer durante estos eventos?
Roberto: Nuestros mentores son los Payasos L.A., asi que queremos seguir los pasos que han hecho los Payasos, ayudar a las pesonas, recaudar fondos, y al mismo tiempo aprender y dar a conocer lo que es la comunidad de osos latinos, somos jóvenes y queremos aprender de personas que tienen mucho tiempo considerándose “Bears” y debemos aprender para educar a otra gente.

Alberto: ¿Cómo piensan atraer a más osos latinos a formar parte de Gummy Bears L.A.?
Roberto: Una de las cosas que nos ha ayudado mucho es Twitter, FaceBook…nos estamos expandiendo y eso es algo bueno, nosotros queremos representar al joven latino gordito, que se sientan agusto con ellos mismos.

Alberto: ¿Solo hay que ser un oso latino para poder formar parte del grupo o tiene que haber problema de autoestima o algún requisito en particular?
Roberto: Nosotros aceptamos a cualquier persona, la mayoría de las personas con las que nos hemos rodeado se sentían igual que yo, diferentes por tener un cuerpo diferente a lo que es el estereotipo, pero la persona que quiera venir a nosotros la recibiremos con los brazos abiertos. No hay requisitos. Por lo menos una noche al mes podemos dejar nuestros problemas en la puerta y divertirnos con personas que se sienten igual que nosotros, porque aparte de los eventos para recaudar fondos nos reunimos cada mes para convivir.

Alberto: Con tus propias palabras, ¿cuál es el objetivo de formar este grupo?
Roberto: Apoyar a la comunidad, dar lo que nos han dado.

Alberto: ¿Crees que a la mayoría de gorditos latinos gays les creea un conflicto emocional no encajar en el estereotipo del típico gay de la escena gay de West Hollywood?
Roberto: Yo creo que eso está cambiando, despacio pero está cambiando. A mi me tocó crecer con la idea en mi entorno que ser un hombre gay era ir al gimnasio, seguir una dieta alimenticia y vivir o visitar West Hollywood. Ahora, tenemos muchos lugares en los que ser gordito es algo con lo que uno se puede sentir orgulloso, es algo lindo. Mientras tú te aceptes como eres, la demás gente te va a aceptar. Pero desafortunadamente aun tenemos esa barrera entre lo que es el estereotipo y la realidad.

Alberto: ¿Te fue difícil salir del closet?
Roberto: Fue muy difícil. No vivo con mis papás y ellos aun no saben, pero creo que tus padres saben porque conocen a sus hijos, les tengo que decir a mis papás porque no quiero que se sientan mal por enterarse por otras personas. Se lo dije a mi hermana y ella me acepta como soy, mientras mi familia me acepte no me importa lo que el resto de la gente piense. Se lo dije a mi hermana hace como tres años, creo que es un proceso y la mayoría de la gente pasa por un proceso para poder aceptarte como eres y decirle a la gente cómo te sientes para que también te acepten.

Alberto: ¿Crees que los latinos salimos del closet más tarde que en otras culturas?
Roberto: Sí, porque tenemos la costumbre del machismo del padre, el pensar que eso no es normal. Aunque yo creo que ya no es tanto como antes.

Alberto: Describe como fue el convivir con otros osos latinos en la primera noche que tuvieron el 23 de diciembre en MJs.
Roberto: Es algo maravilloso, todos nos queremos y nos apreciamos por lo que somos, por la forma en que nos vemos, con vello, sin vello, grandes, bajitos, se siente el amor, el cariño. Lo hacemos el tercer viernes de cada mes.

El gobierno provee dinero a las diferentes ciudades y condados para que compren, arreglen y re-vendan propiedades abandonadas.

El programa NSP provee los fondos económicos para revitalizar comunidades, ayuda a primeros compradores además de ser una fuente de empleos. El condado de Los Ángeles ha recibido por medio de LAHD (Los Ángeles Housing Department) un monto total de $142,740,870 en fondos de parte de “US Department of Housing” en conjunto con ” Home Urban Department (HUD)”, una de las sumas más grandes que se le haya dado a una sola Jurisdicción.


Los usos de el programa NSP incluyen:
* Establecimiento financiero para la compra y desarrollo de casas reposeídas y propiedades residenciales.
* Compra y rehabilitación de casas abandonadas.
* Establecimiento de vecindarios.
* Remover estructuras inservibles.
* Re-desarrollo, demolición o propiedades vacías
* Asistencia a compradores.

Las casas son vendidas a familias de recursos bajos o moderados. Y las unidades multi-familiares son vendidas a instituciones benéficas que se las rentan a familias que estén en la misma situación (recursos bajos o moderados).  Las propiedades son restauradas utilizando materiales que ayudan a la conservación de la energía ( “Green” building components)

NSP in your Neighborhood

Here we are once again celebrating the day of the love.  This month we are talking about a valuable resource in the real estate market known as the NSP Program (Neighborhood Stabilization Program).  

This program was created by the United States Congress in order to help different cities, counties and states with the mortgage crisis and impending foreclosures that are currently a major plague in the country.  The US Government grants money to local governments to purchase, repair and re-sell foreclosed and abandoned homes.

The NSP program provides employment to locals in addition to assistance to first time buyers to purchase these properties.

The Los Angeles Housing Department (LAHD) has received $142,740,870 in NSP funds from the US Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD). This is one of the largest amounts of approved funds awarded to any county!

These homes are sold to low-moderate income homebuyers.  Multi-family properties are sold to non-profit organizations who rent the homes to many of these same families.

The properties are fixed up utilizing modern building techniques and “Green” building components.

Eligible Uses for NSP Funds:
 NSP funds may be used for activities which include, but are not limited to:


* Establish financing mechanisms for purchase and redevelopment of Foreclosed homes and residential properties

* Purchase and rehabilitate homes and residential properties abandoned or foreclosed.

* Establish land banks for foreclosed homes.

* Demolish blighted structures.

* Redevelop demolished or vacant properties.

* Homebuyer Assistance



Homebuyers cannot receive assistance directly from HUD.  NSP funds can be used to help homebuyers purchase homes, but they must contact an NSP grantee for application details. NSP operates on a national scale but participation requirements may differ from one state or city to another.

She does kiss and tell by the way. But this lady is not just your typical starlet she also cares about her community. Which is why she created Aesthetic Empowerment with her long time pal, make-up artist, Osvaldo Salvatierra. AE is a beauty program that helps those in need of self-care and maintenance without the high end price. Ms Clayton is talented, on the rise and beautiful inside and out. We’ll know soon what else is in store for this lucky girl who Hollywood came knocking on her door.
 
Samara: How was life for you growing up?
Jamie: It was tough at times… never feeling like I really fit in. It wasn’t until I was 16 and started working that I found a group of friends I could really be myself around.
 
Samara: Any issues with bullying?
Jamie: Of course! I was very feminine as a child. I’ve also always loved fashion… These traits didnt go over so well with other kids.
 
Samara: How did your family take the news you (are trans?)
Jamie: My fathers response when he found out was “That makes sense”. He was a brilliant man. My mother was just as fantastic. She came with me when I had my GRS back in 2003.
 
Samara: Did you always want to be an actress?
Jamie: No. It wasn’t until I met my acting coach, Brad Calcaterra at The Studio that I realized how much I love acting.
 
Samara: How was it that you got cast in Hung?
Jamie: The producers found me through an article in The New York Times about The Studio I was featured in. They contacted my agent and then I auditioned.
 
Samara: Would you have played anything they wanted you to play?
Jamie: The writers on HUNG are all so creative and sensitive. I would do anything for them.
 
Samara: How was it kissing Mr Thomas Jane?
Jamie: Absolutely fantastic.
 
Samara: So did you find that the camera adds ten pounds? 
Jamie: I never think about things like that. I just try to do the best job I can do. As long as the director thinks I look good, I’m great.
 
Samara: Will your character be coming back to the show?
Jamie: I would love to play Kyla again.
 
Samara: Tell us about Aesthetic Empowerment?
Jamie: AE is a series of free skincare and makeup workshops. I started them with my friend Ozzy Salvatierra. He’s an incredible makeup artist. They take place at Callen Lorde Community Health Center once a month. They were designed to help people who can’t afford to shop at department stores learn how to take care of their skin and apply makeup. We use all drugstore products. It’s so fabulous.
 
Samara: What new projects are you working on now?
Jamie: I’m currently working on filming a new project that I am very excited to be part of and will have more to share on this soon.

We had assumed that the Toronto International Film Festival was over when we booked our flight to arrive the morning after its official closing. In fact, so many meetings continued that we were unable to get any good hotel room downtown for the first three days (Toronto has become the hottest film fest city this side of Cannes and TIFF has its own year-round center for movie buffs). We ended up at the superb Waterside Inn www.watersideinn.ca in the Port Credit section of the suburb of Mississauga (“missih-saw-guh,” named after the local First Nation, as Indian tribes are called in Canada).

Knowing the first day would be rainy, we had agreed to a tour by car with Matthew Wilkinson of Heritage Mississauga (www.heritagemississauga.org), figuring the worst that happened would be we would fall asleep. Instead, his passion kept us wide awake for four hours! He got our attention with the story of “Hurricane Hazel” McCallion, a 91-year-old former pro hockey player who has been mayor since 1978 and has driven the amazingly enlightened development of nine villages (the first founded in 1836), united into the sixth-largest city in Canada, with a population of 750,000 and growing. Spread across 111 square miles, much of it is parkland, while 270 historic buildings are designated for preservation, and there are more than 1,000 sites for cultural events (such as www.livingarts.on.ca). And all this smart development is fully supported by business in a thriving economy. Canadians could teach us a thing or two, it seems.

Niagara Falls is a four-hour round-trip by VIA rail for $45 (the U.S. dollar is worth about the same as the Canadian these days). There are various packages to see the falls up close, from as little as $16 to walk behind the falls at Table Rock to Niagara Helicopters’ 12-minute thrill ride ($118 www.niagarahelicopters.com). Like witnessing a launch at Cape Canaveral, being this close is an unforgettably powerful experience. There is a lot to do in the region, from top wineries to historic sites, if you have another day or two.

Downtown Toronto
Finally, we were able to get into the elegant Sutton Place Hotel www.suttonplace.com in downtown, known for its great service, security, and location (we used Diamond Taxis and Francisco’s Limos to be able to get everywhere fast in our mad last few days, but mass transit is easy to use, and there are various passes to keep transportation and entertainment costs down).

We did our homework using “DK Eyewitness Travel: Top 10 Toronto” and “Fodor’s Toronto” supplemented by www.SeeTorontoNow.com (which has a section for gays and lesbians). We don’t have much interest when we travel in food, shopping, music-theater, or outdoor recreation, since Los Angeles has more than enough of all of those. But Toronto has lots of everything anyone would want, like 9,000 restaurants and a dozen major performance centers. And there’s a bonus: every Torontonian we met was nice and well-informed (imagine: there are four thriving newspapers).

Toronto, which has one of the world’s biggest Pride festivals each June, has lots to do in any season for gays and lesbians. Gay specialty shops, restaurants, and dance clubs are centered around the intersection of Wellesley and Church Streets. Among the most celebrated are the Glad Day Bookshop, Buddies in Bad Times Theatre, Tallulah’s Cabaret, Woody’s bar, and the Fly dance club (which was “Babylon” in the TV’s “Queer as Folk,” Toronto standing in for Pittsburgh).

We began with the aim of boiling down the metropolis of 4.5 million with a walk of the neighborhoods guided by the super-informed Bruce Bell www.brucebelltours.ca (there are five Chinatowns, more Italians than anywhere outside Italy, and a Little Portugal, for starters). Particularly fascinating was the 27-mile PATH, effectively an underground city for Torontonians who want to avoid winter.

These are what we liked best:
*Incredible special interest museums: We thought we couldn’t possibly be interested in the Gallery of Inuit Art (featuring the work of contemporary Eskimos) or the Bata Shoe Museum, but we could hardly pull ourselves away (Toronto has others covering topics such as hockey and the history of textiles).

*Royal Ontario Museum: Terrifically-presented displays (from its six million objects) on subjects from dinosaurs to First Nations.

*Art Gallery of Ontario: A museum strong on Canadian impressionists and Henry Moore sculpture (we loved the microscopic carvings on prayer beads).

*Fort York: Where Americans had their first bloody victory in the War of 1812, which resulted in the retaliatory burning of Washington, D.C. The bicentennial next year will feature many special events to highlight a war that should be better-remembered.

*The Distillery: The largest section of Victorian industrial buildings in North America has been turned into a charming and educational outdoor mall for art galleries, specialty shops, and restaurants.

*CN Tower: At 1,815 feet one of the tallest structures in the world, from the top you realize how green Toronto is (and the 360 Restaurant is, well, tops).

Toronto is a great place to visit and you will want to live there.

But it is interesting how quickly the tables can turn.

As I say it out loud, “L-G-B-T” makes a good sound (go ahead, you try it too). It flows, doesn’t it? It has a nice intonation. LGBT is an acronym easily spotted in magazines and other printed media. Prestigious academic institutions have departments, majors and resource centers exclusively focused on LGBT issues. There are parades and festivals throughout the world to celebrate LGBT pride. Sadly, apparently not all letters were made equal.

Bisexuality is the blatant irony of homo-normative acceptability within the LGBT community. Since the Civil Rights Movement, and specifically the Gay Rights Movement from the 60s, gays and lesbians have decried that homosexuality is a biological trait. Although there are still a handful of morons who believe reparative therapy will “cure” the gay away, the efforts to decriminalize homosexuality have been successful for the most part. As a result, homosexuality is no longer considered a mental illness in medical journals. But exactly how well has this been applied to all LGBT?

Let’s see if we can riddle this one out. If people are naturally born heterosexual or homosexual, then would it not make sense that others could be born bisexual? It seems like a major duh, but it isn’t. It is said that the common sense isn’t so common. It truly is not. Not in this case at least. Bisexual folks are often regarded as “gay-in-training,” “confused,” and just plain “promiscuous.” I suppose that one would understand how these labels would come from heterosexuals if they were not educated in LGBT terminology. But it is sad and shameful when they come from within the LGBT collective.

Bisexual stigma and ignorance run so deep within LGBT (yes, even bisexuals have this internalized hatred), that folks with bisexual tendencies are jumping the entire sexuality spectrum and would rather call themselves polyamorous and pansexual. Since nobody really understands these two terms, no one questions them. For some bi folks these two terms sound “different,” “unique,” “catchy,” and “trendy.” It makes sense. Nobody will judge or point a finger at them for being attracted to both males and females. Nobody will corner them against the wall and make them choose either or.

People are afraid of bisexuality because it disrupts the dichotomy of what we grow up learning to be straight or gay. Everywhere around us the male-female, male-male and female-female standards dominate the mind. The media do an excellent job at reinforcing these mentalities that you can only be attracted to one (doesn’t matter if it’s male or female), but god forbid that you are attracted to both because then there has to be something really wrong with you.

In addition, the crabs-in-a-barrel syndrome tells us a little about how people operate around one another, especially among those within their own social groups. Such behavior is a way by which individuals step on one another to see who gets out of the pot first, or rather, not let others out period. It can also be interpreted as someone hurt me, so I’m going to hurt someone else, or someone put me down, so I’m going to put down someone else. Gay people have been the target of intolerance, hate and violence incessantly. Trans folks have had it worse. And since it is often difficult to fight the oppressor, LGBTs find it easier to pick on easier targets: their very own. It is here where bi folks find themselves at the bottom of the food chain subject to mockery, ridicule and contempt, so that others can feel better about themselves. It is a game of the perception of who holds more power.

Currently in LGBT, what is hot are Trans issues. Gay stuff is old stuff. All are shifting their direction to shed light and understand what is really inside the T. What I am hoping for one day to happen is that we begin to deconstruct the B. It’s like the big elephant in the room everyone ignores. The B needs attention. The B needs nurture. The B shouldn’t be in LGBT just because it sounds good or because it makes the construct seem complete. Or Whole. Or Harmonious.

En 2012, también estarás trabajando con Club Papi y Granda Entertainment en una gira de clubs gays. ¿Qué podemos esperar?
Algo espectacular, en vivo cambios de vestuario, etc. es un privilegio trabajar con Club Papi, Joe Granda y Light Concepts PR para la comunidad gay.
Será un encuentro muy íntimo entre ustedes que me han dado todo y yo.
Esta vez será más íntimo, más de conexión entre ustedes y yo, viviremos una experiencia de amigos que se encuentran y disfrutan de esa compañía, le cantaremos al amor, al desamor, a todo lo que nos mueve y nos hace sentir en la vida y que ustedes y yo compartimos!

¿Por qué quieres hacer este gran evento en la comunidad gay?
Porque los adoro, admiro y respeto mucho, para mi son lo máximo, han estado conmigo siempre, en Timbiriche me recibieron con los brazos abiertos, en la televisión y después en la música como solista, además de que forman parte de mi vida en todos los aspectos, mis amigos, mi equipo de trabajo, la gente que me cuida y que trabaja conmigo son gays y los amo! Siempre hemos tenido una gran conexión.

¿Qué es lo que más esperas con anticipación en esta gira?
Dar mucho amor música y vibrar con mis discos, sentir esa cercanía a ustedes y sobre todo presentarles “Amar no es Suficiente” para que juntos nos volvamos a enamorar, a vivir nuevas canciones y a que todas ellas nos enseñen a valorar lo que tenemos y sobre todo demostrarle a la gente que la quieres que de verdad la quieres! Esta será mi forma de demostrárselos.

No sólo eres cantante, sino también actriz en telenovelas. ¿Hay planes para regresar a la televisión?
Por ahora no, estoy al cien dedicada a la música, la actuación fue y será importante en mi carrera, aunque ahorita todo mi corazón esté lleno de música, no digo nunca.

¿Cuándo te diste cuenta de que querías estar en el mundo del espectáculo?
Desde los 7 años siempre supe que quería ser artista y que es lo que más me apasiona hacer en mi vida, soy muy bendecida en ese aspecto, siempre supe lo que quería y además mis padres siempre me apoyaron, eso fue un factor muy importante.

¿Cuál es tu momento más memorable con un fan?
Todo lo que me dicen por tweeter, sus muestras de amor y lo que me gritan cuando estoy en el escenario, de verdad que no tengo palabras para agradecerlo.

¿Tiene algún consejo para los aspirantes a cantantes y actores?
Mucha disciplina y fuerza, ganas, paciencia y resistencia, sobre todo tener claro en tu mente y en tu corazón qué quieres hacer y luchar muy duro por esos objetivos, nadie dijo que sería fácil pero disfrutar lo que a uno le gusta es de los regalos más hermosos de la vida, yo les aconsejo que sigan sus sueños siempre y que nunca se rindan, los quiero y nos vemos pronto en este tour.

¿Dónde te ves en 5 años?
Prefiero vivir al cien mi presente y no pensar en lo que viene, disfrutemos el aquí y el ahora.

Tell me about your new album.
I love this album. It broke record sales after 10 days of being on sale and went gold. There are some great arrangements and lyrics by Gian Marco Bruno, Armando Avila and 2 songs, which I co-wrote. This record is important, its called ‘Love is not enough’. The album is full of experiences, love and many other things too. It also features ‘Don’t Worry About Me Anymore’, which is a powerful ballad like the ones you like to hear.

Next year you’re teaming up with Club Papi and Granda Entertainment for a gay club tour. What can we expect?
Something spectacular. There will be live costume changes. It’s a privilege to work with Club Papi, Joe Granda and Light Concepts PR for the gay community. It will be a very intimate encounter between the audience and I, who have given me so much. I will sing about love, hate, everything that moves us and makes us feel in life.

Why did you want to do this big event in the gay community?
Because I admire, respect and have much love for the gay community. They are the best and have always been with me. When I was with Timbiriche, they welcomed me with open arms, on television and then in music as a soloist. My friends, my team, the people I care and I work with are gay and I love them! We have always had a great connection!

What are you most looking forward to on this tour?
Give lots of love with my music and to feel that closeness with the audience. I’m excited about introducing ‘Love is Not Enough’, so that together we can fall in love, live new songs that teach us to appreciate what we have.

Not only do you sing, but you also act. Are there plans to return to telenovelas?
Not for now as I’m one hundred percent dedicated to music. Acting was and will be important in my career, but right now my heart is full of music. I wont say never though.

When did you realize that you wanted to be in show business?
Since I was 7 years old, I always knew that I wanted to be an artist. It’s what I am so passionate about. I am very blessed in that aspect. My parents always supported me, which was a very important factor.

Do you have a memorable moment with a fan?
Everything they say on Twitter, the way they show their love for me and what they shout out when I’m on stage. There are no words that can thank them.

Any advice you’d like to give to aspiring artists?
A lot of discipline and strength. Above all, patience and endurance. Fight hard for those goals. No one said it would be easy. To enjoy what one likes is one of the most beautiful gifts in life. I advise you to always follow your dreams and never give up. I love you and see you soon on this tour!

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
I prefer to live in the present and not to think about what’s to come. Let’s enjoy the here and now.

Samara: Do you think there should be an age limit on the show?
Kenya: I truly believe that age, height, skin color or nationality doesn’t define your quality as a performer. Remember it is not what you say is what you do.
 
Samara: Who have been your favorite contestants from past seasons?
Kenya: Well my puertorrican sisters of course! Nina, Jessica Wild and Yara Sofia. I grew up watching them perform and they are a huge inspiration for my character. But I also have a lot of admiration for artists like Shannel, Raven and Raja
 
Samara: Are you an HIV/AIDS advocate in P.R.?
Kenya: Of course. I believe that everyone must respect and love his own temple (body). For this reason it is good to guide other people about this disease and ways to prevent being infected. As we say in PR: No hat no bday baby!
 
Samara: So, what will you do with the cash money if you win RDR?
Kenya: Well I will do 2 very important things with the cash money. One would be to create a foundation for cancer patients. The other would be to create a campaign to promote the protection and treatment of HIV in Puerto Rico.

Is your list filled with superficialities? Of course we must be attracted to our mates, but do they really need to look like a perfect haired Justin Bieber? Yes, we want them to be able to support themselves, but do they need Oprah’s money to do that? Smart is all important, but it might be a bit much to want them to be Anderson Cooper?

I am all for being specific and asking for what you want, however, you must be aware of the reasoning behind the trait you simply cannot live without. It is extremely important to be clear, but if you are clearly asking for a mate that fixes all your problems, then you are not really asking for a mate. You are asking to fix your problems.

Could your list be more about forestalling a mate rather than getting one? Are your expectations based on evasion rather than embracement? High standards are not at issue here, it is the motivation behind the “Must Have” list that is in question.

Before you put it out to the Universe that you are ready and truly want a mate, be sure about your list’s underlying incentives. Knowing what you want is great, but knowing why you want it is all important.

Let’s say you want a powerful, driven mate? Is that because that is what you want in your mate or is it because you feel weak and powerless? Do you really want someone who is sweet and gentle or do you want someone who is submissive and subservient, so that they will do what you want them to do?

And, yes this list might be filled with childhood imbalances. Perhaps you were the least favorite of the siblings, so you want someone who will worship you? It could be that your list compensates for the injustice you saw in your parents’ marriage.

Understanding your motivation in making your “future mate” list is more important than the list itself. If you want someone who is strong-willed and powerful because you feel out of control, would not a person who connected to you feel as if he HAD to control everything? You would once again be at square one. Your mate would have all the power and you would be controlled and powerless again.

Perhaps you will go the opposite way. You felt you had no control as a child so you marry a mate who chooses to let you control everything? You are now in control, but you have not attracted a participatory mate.

Knowing why you want a mate to have particular quality can help you to grow and evolve and to truly be more ready for a mate. When you progress you may find that you no longer care about a certain specification you once thought necessary in a mate.

Remember you get what you ask for and asking for the wrong qualities in a mate will bring you those qualities and that mate. Learn more about yourself. Find out why your list has the items listed on it and find yourself.

My list was vague at best. I got what I did not even know I wanted. My mate is the funniest person I know. He literally makes me laugh every day. I would never have put sense of humor on my list before I met my mate of 20 years. I did not laugh much and did not really even see the need to laugh.

My mate’s hair was definitely on my list, but not at the top. It was not a necessity, yet he has the most perfect hair in the world. I would never have put chubby on the list, yet his being chubby, perfectly flatters my own chubbiness.

Ultimately, I think my list had one very crucial item on it. I wanted to feel loved. My mate not only loved me, but through my mate, I learned to love myself.

I would never advise someone to be as vague as I was, because I was obviously putting out a list of which I was not conscious. My list must have said “perfect mate for me” because that is what I got.
