Fue un placer platicar con Jacqueline Aguilar y Adam Boyles, los protagonistas de la portada del mes de Octubre.

Los invito a disfrutar de una charla amena, íntima y muy reveladora donde los invitados desnudaron el alma, mientras los maquillaban para la sesión de fotos en una hermosa mansión en Glendale, CA.

Victoria: Jacquie ¿de dónde eres orginaria?
Jacqueline: Yo soy de el Puerto de Manzanillo, Colima, México y tengo 10 años viviendo en San Jose, CA.

Victoria: ¿Qué tan difícil ha sido para ti salir adelante siendo una mujer trans latina?
Jacqueline: ¡Wow! desde que era niño, siempre me he esforzado para salir adelante, pues vengo de una familia de medianos recursos y me tocó hacer de todo para salir mis hermanos y yo adelante, recuerdo que a mis 7 años ya salía muy temprano a repartir periódicos junto a mis primos y hermanos y regresaba como a la 1 pm a bañarme para irme a la escuela por la tarde y no me dormía hasta que vendía la última pieza de pan casa por casa, del pan que hacía mi madre.

Victoria: ¿Cómo fue tu transición de niño a mujer?
Jacqueline: Fíjate que no fue tan dramática, pues afortunadamente conté con el apoyo de mis padres y hermanos, pues siempre vieron en mi que fui un niño delicado, trabajador y estudioso y eso balanceó de cierta manera que toda la familia respetara y aceptara mi manera de vivir mi sexualidad.

Victoria: ¿Desde cuando te dedicas a realizar shows travesties?
Jacqueline: Mmm, desde que era un niñito siempre estaba imitando a los artistas de moda y fantaseaba con los concursos del Miss Universo y Miss México que veía por la TV y nunca me imaginé que estaría un día participando en un concurso como el Miss Adelante, que fue una experiencia que siempre llevaré en mis recuerdos.

Victoria: ¿Donde te presentas actualmente?
Jacqueline: Afortunadamente trabajo los 7 días de la semana y me pueden encontrar en Club Lidos, Club 21, Faces, Benc & Bar, Gilroy y eventos especiales.

Adam Boyles

Victoria: Adam, platícanos acerca de ti.
Adam: Soy un chavo de Orange County, tengo 30 años de edad y me considero sencillo, amigable y muy honesto con toda la gente que me rodea, pues es lo mínimo que se merece la gente que te quiere y aprecia.

Victoria: ¿Eres un chico latino?
Adam: ¡Wow! Sabes, ahora sé que mi madre era de México y mi padre de Honduras y supe que cuando tenía meses de nacido, una pareja de estadounidenses me adoptó legalmente.

Victoria: ¿Cómo te enteraste de tu origen?
Adam: Cuando estaba en la secundaria no faltó el compañerito que me hostigaba preguntándome por qué mi color de piel era diferente a la de mis padres y hermanos, esto me motivó un día a enfrentar a mi madre y fue cuando mis padres me contaron la verdad.

Victoria: ¿Cómo te afectó enterarte de la verdad sobre tu persona?
Adam: La verdad nunca supe los motivos sobre el por qué mis padre me dieron en adopción, pero me siento muy bendecido por los padres que tengo, pues me han enseñado la importancia de vivir libre de rencores, odios y resentimientos. Gracias a ellos soy una persona exitosa, seguro de mi mismo y para ellos solo tengo agradecimiento y me han tratado como si fuera un hijo biológico.

Victoria: ¿Cómo festejas Halloween?
Adam: Por ser un hombre latino festejo con mi familia durante el día y por la noche me disfrazo y salgo con amigos a ver quien le saco el miedo (risas).

Victoria: ¿Qué mensage tienes para toda la comunidad GLBT que vive momentos difíciles?
Adam: Pues que luchen siempre por lo que deseen y que nada te impida brillar, aun con la peor de las tragedias o agonias puedes salir triunfador.

Alberto: ¿Cómo estás hoy después de los Premios lo Nuestro de anoche?
Gloria: Creeme que cuando inicio promoción de disco, gira y todo, todos los días son como que igual de intensos. Después de anoche fui con Don Francisco y hoy vuelo para Mérida porque mañana tengo un concierto por allá.

Alberto: ¿Cuál es el título de tu nuevo disco y para cuándo sale a la venta?
Gloria: El disco se llama GLORIA, sale a la venta el 22 de marzo, aunque desde el 15 de febrero se inició la preventa en iTunes. Encantados con que el disco esté ya causando conmoción, expectativa y todo. Todos estamos bien contentos, la compañía disquera, yo y todos. Este material vale la pena comprarlo fisicamente, porque va a tener muy muy buena fotografía, portada, y material adicional que la gente va a apreciar mucho.

Alberto: ¿Cuál es el concepto de tu nuevo disco? ¿Qué color predomina?
Gloria: Mira que interesante que preguntes qué color predomina porque de una u otra manera para mi como que cada disco ha tenido su personalidad, es lo que me mueve a hacer muchísimas cosas. Este disco me movió a cambiarme el color del pelo, con Me Río de Tí, con La Noche, con Fuego con Fuego, me provocó mucho las llamas, el fuego…

Alberto: Escuché 6 de los temas que vienen en tu disco, ¿cómo describes Fuego con Fuego?
Gloria: Fuego con Fuego es una canción que yo sé que cuando la escuchen les va a encantar, tiene un arreglo increible, super vanguardista. Primero me llevaron una versión en inglés, la canté creando mi propia versión, yo hice la versión en español, fue una de las canciones que me hizo cambiar todo el look, está muy padre.

Alberto: Me Río de Tí mentalmente la ligo con Cinco Minutos, y como que tienen la misma dedicatoria.
Gloria: Es absolutamente hija de Todos me Miran y Cinco Minutos, tiene el ‘ponchi ponchi’ de Todos me Miran, tiene esa ironía, esa dulce venganza de hacer daño, y solamente vengándome de aquella persona que me quería haber jodido. Es la canción perfecta para hacer la transcición del disco de Una Rosa Blu al disco de Gloria.

Alberto: ¿Tiene dedicatoria Me Río de Tí?
Gloria: Por supuesto, si no tuviera dedicatoria no estaría en mi disco. Tiene que llegarme personalmente, y eso es lo que hace ese click, esa comunicación con el público, el hecho de que yo siento lo que canto cuando estoy en un concierto y la gente se entrega y se emociona y me llevan a las lágrimas, todos lloramos y todos nos carcajeamos juntos, yo no canto una canción porque sea comercial, yo la canto porque me llega.

Alberto: Hay un tema La Noche, ¿la noche es especial para ti? ¿tiene más chispa que el día?
Gloria: La Noche es una de mis canciones preferidas del disco, me divierte muchísimo. En general La Noche, Fuego con Fuego, Vestida de Azucar, son las canciones que me llevaron a cambiarme el color del pelo y todo…quiero andar asi como castaña de día y rubia de noche…de día “la super heroe” y de noche “la super villana”.

Alberto: Y un tema que estoy seguro que va a llamar la atención es tu dueto con Paulina Rubio (No al Alguacil)
Gloria: Padrísimo trabajar con ella, porque aparte de que siempre nos hemos tirado muy buena onda, muy buena energía, muy buena vibra…tenemos una base de fans muy interesante que yo creo que al hacer esto juntas hacemos una unificación de dos públicos enormes, y es uno de mis sueños más grandes, de hacer la música cada vez más universal, que no hayan barreras que de repente te imponen los managers, las disqueras, los egos, sino que al contrario, que la música sirva para unir a toda la gente…en lugar de que los fans estén compitiendo que nos unamos entre todos y que mis fans sean amigos de los fans de ella, y que digamos No al Alguacil, no a aquella cosa que quiera cambiar nuestra manera de ser.

Alberto: Está otro tema Qué Decisión tan Fatal, ¿has tomado alguna decisión que después has considerado fatal?
Gloria: No, yo creo que ninguna porque todavía estoy viva. Esa canción lo que tiene es un super humor, fíjate que la escogí precisamente porque hay una canción muy dramática que se llama ‘Despiértame’, que te hunde terriblemente, te dan ganas de cortarte las venas, muy triste, pero si pones después Qué Decisión tan Fatal te levanta…ok, despiértame, arráncame esta pesadilla, no puedo creer que me estés dejando…pero después dices “me dejaste pasar, qué decisión tan fatal la que tomaste”, ahí te empiezas a levantar otra vez. Este disco es una especie de rueda de la fortuna.

Alberto: El Día de San Valentín tuviste que volar a Miami para prepararte para tu participación en Premios lo Nuestro del 17 de febrero, ¿tuviste tiempo para celebrar San Valentín?
Gloria: Ni San Valentín, ni mi cumpleaños que fue al día siguiente, o sea, no he tenido tiempo de nada, y no creo que vaya a tener tiempo de nada, ando corriendo ahorita, estoy en el aeropuerto.

Alberto: ¿Qué tal el resultado en Premios lo Nuestro? ¿Te sientes contenta?
Gloria: Bien contenta, estuvo divertidísimo, yo creo que fue más divertido lo que pasaba tras bambalinas, porque imagínate hacer ese cambio que hicimos de look en 30 segundos, canté con los chicos de Camila, que fue padrísimo porque nos llevamos super bien, es un poco lo que te digo de hacer la música un poco más universal…haz de cuenta que termino de cantar con ellos y me paso a otro escenario para cantar Me Río de Tí vestida de catrina, llorando, desnuda, con cambio de peinado y todo, fue como muy intenso, adrenalina a todo.

Alberto: Ahora que viene tu nuevo disco, ¿qué presentaciones tienes y planes de promoción?
Gloria: Voy a estar en conciertos y promociones. Por ejemplo, mañana tengo un concierto padrísimo en Mérida, Yucatán. Va todo mi equipo, los bailarines, las pantallas, va a ser un concierto padrísimo. En la promoción voy a Puerto Rico, Nueva York, Los Angeles, regreso a Miami, Texas y muchos lugares, partiéndome en cachos.

Alberto: Con todo este ajetreo ¿tu esposo se pone celoso?
Gloria: Sí, es un perro del mal. Se enoja y se contenta. Pero bueno, a mi mientras no se pase de la raya…siento que será porque estoy bien bonita.

Adelante: Recientemente, Adelante organizó su concurso El Papi del Año y tú fuiste el ganador, ¿qué te motivó a participar y cómo resultó la experiencia?
Antonio: Cuando Adelante organizó El Papi del Año hace unos cuantos meses entré a la competencia esperando poder darle a conocer a mis clientes más sobre mi. Mi vida ha sido abierta desde que tomé mi primer clase de ballet a los 8 años. Ha sido importante para mi ser abierto sobre mi sexualidad ya que los hombres gays en la comunidad latina como que no se animan tan facilmente.
Mi familia siempre me ha apoyado, amado, y respetado.
La competencia fue muy divertida y llena de adrenalina. La gente que conocí, fueron abiertos, amables y divertidos. Todos los que compitieron tenían talento y se veían muy bien. Mi verdadera pasión es el baile, así que pedí poder hacer un número de baile como parte del evento. Durante ese número de baile me sentí completamente conectado con la audiencia.

Adelante: ¿En qué trabajas?
Antonio: Soy bailarín profesional, actor, y entrenador personal. Actulamente estoy actuando en San Francisco en el Lorraine Hansberry Theater en Ft. Mason donde tengo el papel de Joseph “A Joyful Noise Unto the Lord” una celebración musical por Navidad.

Adelante: ¿Cuáles son tus pasatiempos?
Antonio: Hacer ejercicio, cocinar con amigos, correr, bailar, hacer enojar a mis sobrinos.

Adelante: ¿Eres soltero, casado…?
Antonio: No soy casado, tampoco soltero, y estoy seguro que me la paso muy bien.

Adelante: ¿Cuáles son tus metas en la vida?
Antonio: Me encantaría tener un reality show en Televisión basado en mis amigos, clientes, y familia. Oh, y espera hasta escuchar sobre mi abuela. Un estudio de baile, mi propio video de ejercicios y mi propio gimnasio para mis clientes hacia el cual llegue con mi chofer. (Soy un terrible conductor!)
Sin embargo, sé que la fuente de mi felicidad viene de dentro de mi, y que mientras esté en contacto con mi amor propio y generocidad atraeré a las personas y las cosas que me proveen con lo que necesito.
Tengo lo que necesito en este momento y me siento agradecido por ello.

Adelante: ¿Qué más te gustaría compartir con nuestros lectores sobre ti?
Antonio: No todo mundo tiene por qué salir del closet y es responsabilidad de todos respetar a los demás. Nadie escoge ser gay o heterosexual. Sólo podemos decidir cómo lo manejamos y educar a aquellos a nuestro alrededor.
No hay cambio a menos que cambiemos nosotros mismos.

Adelante: You are on the cover of Adelante this month, can you tell our readers how you became our cover boy?
Antonio: The winner of the 2011 Papi Del Año contest is on the cover of Adelante’s new years issue.

Adelante: Recently, Adelante organized its Papi del Año contest and you were the winner, what motivated you to participate and how was the whole experience?
Antonio: Adelante had a Papi del Año competition a few months ago. I entered the competition in the hopes of letting all my clients know what I am about. My life has been open ever since I took my first ballet lesson at age 8. It has been important to me to be out since gay men in the Latino community have been slow to come out. My family has always supported, loved, and respected me.
The competition was a lot of fun and shot full of adrenaline. The people I met, were open, gracious, and fun. Everyone who competed had talent and good looks. My true passion is dancing so I requested that I be allowed to perform as part of the evening.
During the dance I felt as though I had become one with the audience.

Adelante: What do you do for a living?
Antonio: I’m a professional dancer, actor, and personal trainer. Currently I am performing in San Francisco at the Lorraine Hansberry Theater at Ft. Mason where I play the role of Joseph “A Joyful Noise Unto the Lord” a gospel celebration of Christmas.

Adelante: What are your hobbies?
Antonio: Working out, cooking with friends, running, dancing, teasing my nephews.

Adelante: Are you single, married…?
Antonio: I’m not married, I am not single, and I am sure having a lot of fun.

Adelante: What are your goals in life?
Antonio: Would love to have a reality TV show based on my friends, clients, and family. Just wait until you hear about Grandma. A dance studio, my own work out video and my own gym for my clients to which I am chauffered by my private driver. (I am a terrible driver!)
However, I know the source of my happiness comes from inside my own being and that when I stay in touch with the core of my own love and generosity I attract the people and things that provide me with all I need.
I have what I need at this moment and I am very grateful for this.

Adelante: What else would you like to share with our readers about you?
Antonio: It is not everyone’s duty to come out and it is everyone’s responsibility to respect one another. It is not a choice to be gay or straight. Our choice is in how we deal with it and educate those around us.
There is no change unless we change ourselves.

Model: Talla

Adelante: So, you feel cooking at home is better than eating out?
Talla: es, for sure. It is healthier because you’re always aware and have control of the ingredients which are not good for you. You can control the salt and oil. It may not be the best tasting but its better for you.

Adelante: What are the best types of foods to eat?
Talla: Lean meats. Chicken breast, fish and brown rice and lots of vegetables and fruits. Items that are high in protein and low in carbs.

Adelante: What are the secrets to staying in good shape?
Talla: It’s the food you eat. It’s better to eat several small portions every few hours than large meals.

Adelante: How often do you work out?
Talla: Four to five times a week. Twice a week I do cardio.

Adelante: How about sleep?
Talla: Sleeping is very important. I need at least 7-8 hours each day.

Adelante: How important is sex for good health?
Talla: Very important, good for stress relief. Now at my age, it’s the same as having good wine. It’s a question of quality.

Adelante: What do you think of the new U.S. President?
Talla: I love him. I think it’s a change, a new beginning. The world is changing and America needs to change as well. We need to trust in something different. I like his ideas. He does not fit the traditional mold. Everyone should have a voice – gay, straight, men and women. He represents a new voice. It’s all good.

Adelante: What are your favorite things to do?
Talla: Dance.

Adelante: What things don’t you like?:
Talla: I’m not a morning person and don’t like to wake up early.

Favorite Actor: Brad Pitt – “Because he rocked-out in Fight Club.” I loved the book, then when I saw the move, I said wow!”
 
Favorite Music: “Anything but Country.”  “I just never felt it.  I’m not really down with the cowboy thing and the dysfunctional relationships they sing about in their songs.”
 
Favorite Band: The Doors – Classic Rock Group.  “They were ahead of their time.”

His Goals: John is near completion of a Master’s Program in Social Psychology, with a concentration in Influence and Persuasion.  He hopes to eventually acquire a Ph.D., some day become a professor, teach, conduct research and write books.
 
Adelante:  What makes people tick?
John: “Basically, their desires…the things they want.”
 
Adelante: Why do you believe you would be good in this field?
John:  “Because most of us are good at the things which we are pre-disposed or pre-inclined to do.  I think I’ve known this is what I wanted to do since I was young.  What will make me particularly successful is that I have always had the interest, the motivation for the work and I find people interesting.”
 
Adelante: What’s interesting about people to you?
John:  “Just the complexity of human behavior.  To ‘predict’ human behavior and to have a sense of why people do the things they do in life.  It gives us a good understanding of the type of individuals on the planet with us.”
Adelante: You’re a model and actually very smart.  Would you say that brains are just as important as good looks?
John: “Oh, yea.  Often those that are good looking have learned in life to rely on their good looks to get them by…but I tend to rely on my intelligence to get me by.”
 
“Intelligence and education are important.  This because although you may look good, does anyone really want to be around those that are boring or lack interests in life?   I think people that are intelligent and educated know that.  So, they become the type of people that others want to be around.”
 
Adelante: What are the major challenges for this country? 
John: “I believe it’s people’s thinking…a lot of times people live in boxes and develop limitations by believing the odds in life are against them.  But if you really want something, it is possible.  Look at president-elect Barak Obama; he grew up a poor ‘welfare-child’ and look where he is today.  Others are born with a lot, but go nowhere.”
 
Adelante: What causes that?
John: “It comes from a lot of social sources…perhaps parents that don’t encourage their children to go after their heart’s desires because they are trying to protect them.  Often, parents encourage their kids to pursue things which are more ‘practical’…they don’t want to see their kids fail, so they have them set lower goals.  That is harmful.”
 
Adelante: How do we change this?
John: “That’s one of the reasons I want to be a teacher…because by helping children believe they can do whatever they want when they
are young can cause incredible change.”

Favorite things to do: Drawing, acting, modeling, to roller blade; likes to sing, but says, “I’m not that good at it – but I like it anyway;” hanging out at the beach, going to clubs and dancing.

Type He likes: Athletic, dark complexion, light hair, they have to be fun and sincere, honest and faithful; “I like to give people their space, but like to have my space also.”

Food He Likes: Chinese, Sushi, Argentinean, Cuban, Italian, “especially Lasagna,” Mexican Food – “I love tacos.”

Favorite places: South Beach, Florida, “because it’s beautiful and I love the sea and can relax and enjoy rollerblading.” “The other place I like a lot is the Epcot Center in Orlando.”

Q: Why do you like the beach?
A: “I love water. I like listening to the waves. I clear my mind and body when I go to the beach.”

Q: What don’t you like?
A: “I think I’m ok with everything. I can adapt to any situation you put me in. I’m pretty much fluid, like water and can adapt to any situation.”

Favorite singers: Shakira, Modonna and Britney Spears.

Favorite TV Stars: Nicole Kidman, Demi Moore; Drew Barrymore, Lucy Liu, Cameron Diaz, Keanu Reeves, Sandra Bullock; Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, “although she has not been looking so good lately.”

Goals for future: “I want to be a plastic surgeon or a psychologist. Plastic surgeon because, “I love the aesthetics of the human body and like seeing people achieve their personal goals. I think this is a good way to help.” “A psychologist because I believe I’m a person that can understand other people’s problems and I’m a good listener. I think I give good advice.”

Q: Where do you see yourself in five years?
A: “I’m going to be studying one of these careers. I also would like to see myself as a famous model – the biggest passion I have.” “Hopefully, very centered, helping my family in being successful. I would like to be a model, but there is a lot of competition out there.”

Q: What makes a good model?
A: “Well, the passion is the first component and the determination to do it.” “People think it’s easy to model, you have to put your emotions into the picture, depending on the shoot and there is a lot of discipline; you have to be cautious with your diet, and in exercising.”

Q: What makes you happy?
A: “Being around my family, because they are everything to me. They are all I have in this world. Being surrounded by people that love me and whom I love. Living in a peaceful environment. We Scorpions like to maintain a harmonious life.”

Q: What’s your advice – for the new President?
A: “Don’t make war, by any means; because I don’t believe in fighting. For me, I don’t think war solves anything. I would tell him to try to lead this county as peacefully as possible.”
