Me tomó casi 2 años terminarla.

Algunas veces uso lápiz, marcadores delgados y lapiceros.

The Art of Manuel Acevedo

Alberto: How the influence of a gay cultured lifestyle is shown on your art?
Manuel: I grew up here in L.A., in Pico Rivera and in the gay Latino community. It’s the people of our community who inspire my work, the power of gay Latinos.

Alberto: You like to draw portraits, what aspects or parts of the face are more expressive or interesting for you?
Manuel: The eyes and mouth are what catch my attention. Sometimes it’s the body too.

Alberto: If you were not an artist, what else would you enjoy doing as a living?
Manuel: When im not drawing or painting then I’m reading, so I’ll probably be working at a bookstore.

Alberto: How much time has taken to finish the piece of art that took you more time than the rest to be completed?
Manuel: The longest piece that took me the longest was the “Octavio” piece. It’s so big around 4’ ½ tall. It took me almost 2 years to complete it.

Alberto: Do you have to feel or be on a certain mode to draw? What inspires you?
Manuel: I usually draw when I’m alone. I like it to be very quiet so I can have focus on drawing.
Many things inspire me. Photography, paintings, books, movies and a lot of music. Anything I see or hear can inspire me.

Alberto: Describe your art in general and your technic.
Manuel: Most of my work is of gay Latinos in single portrait poses or couples in passionate kisses and some in private intimate moments. I paint what I know and see everyday. My technic is: I start the drawing with a pencil to get the right shapes, then I use watercolor to get the foundation of the colors. From there I use the technical pens and inks for the details.

Alberto: What are the materials that you use the most?
Manuel: I use technical pens with India ink and watecolors on watercolor paper. Sometimes pencils, sharpie markers and pens.
