José: Me gusta que sean más altos que yo, un poquito mayores que yo, que sean hogareños, románicos, muy apegados a su familia, y que sean delgados.

¿Cómo es tu relación con tu familia?
José: Saben que soy gay, me apoyan, como es muy importante para mi la familia, era importante para mi que supieran y contar con su apoyo.

¿Qué tipo de ocupación tienes?
Trabajo para una compañia que organiza eventos, tipo alfombra roja.

¿Estudias?
José: Dejé el colegio a la mitad. Quiero regresar a estudiar para ser intérprete en las cortes.

¿Cuáles son tus pasatiempos?
Me gusta practicar deportes al aire libre, como la bicicleta en la playa, patinar, escalar. Me gusta ir mucho al cine, me gusta ver miniseries en la tele, pasar tiempo con la familia, salir con los amigos. Salgo mucho para West Hollywood con los amigos los fines de semana, me gusta salir a comer a restaurantes, mi comida favorita es la mexicana. Hago mucho ejercicio, voy al gimnasio de lunes a viernes.

¿Por qué es tan importante para ti cuidar el físico?
José: Me gusta estar saludable y verme bien. Me cuido mucho el pelo, es muy importante para mi el pelo.

¿Tienes mascota?
José: Tengo un yorkie, un perro de los chiquitos, tengo cuatro años con el, es como si fuera mi bebé.

¿Qué tipo de ropa es tu favorita?
José: Me gusta lo más que pueda estar a la moda, me gusta usar jeans y ropa un poco más formal.

¿Alguna otra cosa que quieras compartir con los lectores de Adelante?
José: Que estuve en el Junior Military cuatro años, en el Navy, es algo que me llama mucho la atención, estuve en la base militar de San Diego, me gradué de un programa que tienen ellos que se llama NJROTC. Ese fue mi pasatiempo durante mis años de High School.

¿Hay mucha actividad sexual entre los chicos de la Navy?
José: Sí, mucha. Tengo mucho amigos que decidieron quedarse en la militar, y me cuentan que es algo muy común. Y ya es más fácil, porque se puede ser gay abiertamente, es un paso más para la comunidad gay.

Mucha gente se opone a que los gays formen parte del servicio militar y la naval. ¿Consideras tú que no hay ninguna diferencia en el desempeño que puede tener una persona gay y una persona heterosexual?
José: Yo pienso que no. Yo tengo amigos que son gays y están en la militar, y hacen su trabajo igual o mejor que cualquier persona heterosexual.

I am president of L.A.’s East Area Planning Commission and Democratic candidate for the open seat in our 51st Assembly District. My district takes in all of East L.A., where I was born, and Northeast L.A., where I have lived for a decade while serving my neighbors and community.

An openly gay Latino, I co-founded Honor PAC in 2005 and am now its past president. It is the first statewide LGBT political action committee for Latina/os anywhere in the nation dedicated to empowering LGBT Latinas/os and winning equality. I was a leader in the fight against Prop 8 in 2008, raising money to open the campaign’s East L.A. office and shaping English and Spanish messages for Latinos and other voters. I am a past board member of AIDS Action, now AIDS United. From Drugstore Cowboy, Charlie’s Angels, The L Word (playing a drag king, nontheless), to most recently the new 90210 and now the Starz original series Magic City, set on the glamorous Miami Beach 1959. Ms Lynch has staying power. All that and a successful Hollywood marriage of twenty years to Magic City’s creator Mitch Glazer. How does she do it? Take note young Hollywood starlets. I recently attended the black carpet premiere of Magic City and had a chance to meet and interview Ms Lynch. What I found was a nice, down to earth, sweetheart of an actress. That may be the secret to her success.

Samara: Tell us how you got cast in Magic City?
Kelly: Well, I slept with the showrunner… because he’s my husband. (laughs)
 
Samara: Oh wow that was easy.

Kelly: Yeah, yeah. It was fun too!
 
Samara: Did you get to choose the character you wanted to play?
Kelly: Well this has been a dream of ten years ago, Mitch wrote the original version of Magic City and he had a couple of different characters he was developing that he thought would be right for me. We’ve kind of admired John Cassavetes and Gena Rowlands and have worked together in the past and we adored working with each other actually.

So it was always a plan to be a part of this with each other together. And he developed a character for me that is absolutely perfect and something that I really… everyday I feel like I should pay them to go to work, I didn’t say that, (laughs) but it’s so much fun.
 
Samara: Especially shooting on South Beach, Miami right?
Kelly: Oh yeah, Miami, it’s ridiculous… it’s like to be there and work at the same time is crazy fun. I mean its just one of the great cities in the world and right now its really glamorous, the art there, the Latin influence in Miami from South America as well as Cuba, from everywhere has really invigorated the city. Art Basel. It’s a glamorous time like 1959 when our show is set is a similar kind of vibe. So we have this sort of parallel thing going on. You know the glamour, the Rat Pack era which is our era 1959 coupled with whats going on right now which is a similar really great vibe. The place is absolutely… you know… amazing restaurants, the music, the people. Its sophisticated but sexy. It’s fun to be there.
 
Samara: And hot?
Kelly: And hot. I like it. It’s great for your skin. (laughs)
 
Samara: So tell us a little bit about your character?
Kelly: Well, she’s an interesting person. In 1959 she’s a very wealthy heiress. Completely independently wealthy. Her family… her parents are dead. She never had children. She just said good-bye to husband number two so she has the wealth of the… she’s maybe the wealthiest person in Miami. And powerful and yet beautiful, a woman, very sexy. A bit of a trouble maker. Fun. And you know what could be better? Really. The clothes, the houses, the cars that a woman like that would have. It’s really fun! (laughs)
 
Samara: Wow! Sounds like you got the best part…
Kelly: I think so. Definitely.
 
Samara: What do you want to let people know so they’ll tune in to the show?
Kelly: You will not be disapointed. These are… this years eight mini movies that are as sexy and fun and glamorous, and exciting, and surprising, and cool as any movie I’ve ever seen.

Mi formación es como Activista Artista Visual en la Comunidad Gay, me mudé a Estados Unidos porque salí VIH positivo, me di la oportunidad de por medio de la pintura tener una voz, porque mi generación de hombres gays siempre han estado un poco dentro del closet, mi generación me impulso a no tener miedo y aceptar quién realmente soy.

Primeros Trabajos

Mis primeros trabajos fueron en esos momentos de tristeza, de querer regresarme a mi país, de sentir anhelos, de querer limpiarme espiritualmente, por eso mi arte es muy abstracto.

Mis primeras imágenes son de cuando me involucré como activista en diferentes lugares como Bienestar, APLA, LAGLC, estuve trabajando para la Revista Impacto publicando imágenes, casi la mitad de mi trabajo del 2001 al 2008 son imágines dedicadas al VIH.

Descripción de Arte
Mi arte es abstracto por querer manifestarme sin ninguna ética. Creo que mis obras tienen un mensaje subliminal, el abstracto no tiene límites en cuestión de técnicas. Me he sentido muy atraido a los colores en una forma de expresión sin límite.

A través de mi arte quiero cautivar ese mundo espiritual de mis ancestros, yo vengo de chamanes por parte de mi mamá.

Los chamanes son como alquimistas porque hacen magia, yo trabajo con una técnica de sanación por medio de la pintura, tengo una colección que se llama transorgánica y me gusta trabajarlo con personas que están bloqueadas con su energía, y se les ayuda por medio de la pintura.

No estoy atraido al realismo en cuanto a técnica de arte, me gusta más lo interno, es por ello que algunas de mis obras eróticas pareciera que son simplemente líneas o contornos.

Murales
Hay un mural que hice dedicado a la llorona, lo pinté en Silver Lake, hay muchas historias de la llorona, esta es la mujer maíz, el maíz es una forma de subsustir.

Actualmente estoy en Pomona y estoy haciendo más murales, por medio de esta colección callejera a través de los murales en el fondo la idea es trascender. En los callejones de Pomona no hay tanta política para poder pintar los murales, como hay en tantos lugares.

Colección
Me gusta que las cosas que se pinten se expresen abiertamente. Se me ocurrió hacer una colección de hombres con los falos, que si eres bottom o top disfrutarlo y expresarlo abiertamente, creo que debemos aceptarnos como somos.

Material
La mayoría de mi arte son acrílicos, manejo también lo que es water color, aceite, gis, pigmentos naturales que tomo de las plantas, los pigmentos los uso para texturas y líneas, cuando usas una sustancia diferente a la otra hay una reacción y eso se manifiesta en el color.

Si manejara una obra realista tendría que ser lisa. Me gusta usar mezcla de materiales, lo que le llaman Mixed Media. Incluso hay pinturas que he hecho de sangre, tengo figuras humanoides que no he sacado a la luz porque creo que son muy personales.

Exhibición
Actualmente formo parte de exhibiciones colectivas en el Museo Latino de Pomona, al terminar la exhibición actual en mayo continuará una exhibición diferente en junio.

¿Cómo te diste cuenta que tenías Cáncer?
Me desperté un día con mucho dolor. Lo ignoré. Me tomé una aspirina. El dolor era en mi estómago, pecho y los pulmones. Es donde estaba el cáncer. Desarrolé una neumonía en mis pulmones. Fui al hospital.

En el hospital, uno de los doctores me dijo “¿Sabes que tienes Cáncer?” Los rayos-X demostraban tumores pequeños en mis pulmones y uno demasiado grande en mi estómago. Empezaron a darme medicamentos para tratar la neumonía. Cuando la neumonía se disipó comenzaron a tratar el cáncer. Me dieron un año para vivir.

No era un hospital de especialidad y sólo iban a darme tratamiento allí y mandarme a casa para estar cómodo y morir. Es cuando mi mamá se enojó y comenzó a buscar otros tratamientos.

Encontramos a City of Hope en Duarte. Me dijeron que estaría bien, que pasaria por tratamientos y que iba a ser realmente difícil. Me dijeron que no me preocupara. Me dijeron que harían todo lo posible por salvar mi vida. Estuve en el hospital recibiendo quimoterapia y radiación. Se me cayó mi cabello y mis cejas. Luché y luché. Finalmente, me dijeron que mi sangre estaba volviendo a la normalidad. Ellos salvaron mi vida.

¿Cuando recibías tus tratamientos, ¿te trataban diferente porque eras gay?
En el primer hospital uno de las enfermeros me preguntó si yo era sexualmente activo. Pensaba que era algo como una ETS o VIH o algo parecido. Cuando le dije que yo era gay, era como “oh, ¿eres?” “¿Cuántas parejas sexuales has tenido?” “¿Sabes que ustedes están propagando el VIH y las ETS?” Les dige “¿están ustedes seguros de que eso es lo que yo tengo?” El médico dio, “vamos a comprobar ahora.” Más tarde regresó y dijo: “no tienes VIH, pero sí tienes cáncer”.

¿Se disculpó por su actitud?
No, me quejé por su actitud y también porque nadamás querían mandarme a casa para que muriera.

¿Cuáles eran tus pensamientos cuando te dijeron que solo tenías un año para vivir?
Lloré. Tenía 19 años. Me puse a pensar ¿por qué me sucede esto? ¿Qué va a pasar con mi familia? Yo no quería hacerle daño a mi familia…yo no podía dejar a mi familia. Yo no podía creer que sólo tendría un año por vivir. Todo el tiempo que pasé en el hospital estaba confundido y aturdido. ¿Cómo le diría a todos que no iba a vivir por mucho tiempo? Seguí preguntando a Dios ¿por qué?
Nadie en mi familia tenía el cáncer. Entonces leí en el Internet que el cáncer puede saltar generaciones. Realmente averigüé que el cáncer corría en mi familia hace unos años.

¿Cuál es tu situación actualmente?
Todavía lo tengo y me hicieron una biopsia hace tres semanas. Todavía no tengo los resultados y me dijeron que se están ejecutando más pruebas porque ven un tumor que está creciendo. No está activo pero si espero más o no le dan tratamiento podría ser malo. Me dejarán saber cuál será el tratamiento adecuado, más quimioterapia o radiación.

¿Cuáles fueron tus reacciones a la quimioterapia?
Existen diferentes tipos de tratamientos. Pueden ser duros. Básicamente, es como tener una gripe muy fuerte. Dolores de cabeza, dolor de estómago y náuseas severas. Pensé que nunca necesitaría ese tratamiento nuevamente. Que el cáncer se iría desapareciendo poco a poco. Me dijeron que por un par de años estaría bien, pero que podría reaparecer de nuevo y tomarme por sorpresa. Volví a la depresión, no quería tratar nuevamente con eso.

¿Te sientes deprimido actualmente?
No. Pero cuando me siento deprimido tengo mi familia y mis amigos. Ellos me levantan mi espíritu y me recuerdan que he luchado antes. Tratan de asegurarme que las cosas estarán bien. Pero a veces sí caigo dentro y fuera de la depresión.

¿Que haces con su vida en este momento, estás trabajando? ¿Estás estudiando?
Terminé el entrenamiento de asistente médico en 2010. Estoy haciendo trabajo temporal en el campo de la medicina. Voy a diferentes clínicas y hospitales. También me gusta bailar como go-go boy. A veces yo me ofrezco como voluntario para hablar en diferentes lugares. Cuento mi historia y trato de dar esperanza a aquellos que están en mi misma situación.

¿Cuáles son tus pasatiempos?
Me gusta la poesía. Colecciono monos de peluche. Cada vez que voy a algún lugar y veo un mono, me lo compro. En la esquina de mi habitación tengo montones de monos. La gente sabe que me gustan los monos así cuando me ven me regalan uno. Me gusta mezclar música con mi computadora. Me gusta crear nuevos sonidos. Salgo con mi sobrino para jugar al baloncesto en el parque. Hay algunas cosas que físicamente no puedo hacer ahora.

¿Cuáles son tus esperanzas y tus pensamientos para el futuro?
Que yo sobreviva esto. No quiero pasar por lo que pasé hace unos años, pero si tengo que hacerlo lo haré. En el futuro espero que tenga esa voz para dejar a otra gente saber mi historia y vivir cómodo y tener mi propio espacio y olvidar del dolor que esto me ha causado y ver que otra gente me vea con aquella mirada ‘de compasión’. No quiero ver el dolor en los ojos de la gente cuando ellos me ven enfermo.

¿Cómo te imaginas viviendo de aquí a cinco años?
Quiero estar trabajando como enfermero de tiempo completo en el Hospital City of Hope. Necesito terminar la escuela de enfermería. Quiero estar sano y libre de cáncer.

¿Algo qué te gustaría decir a nuestros lectores?
Si conoces a alguien que esté pasando por lo que yo estoy pasando o cualquier otro tipo de enfermedad, todo lo que ellos necesitan es el apoyo. Ellos necesitan a amigos y la familia, y ellos necesitan el aumento de energía al saber que tú estás allí para ellos.

Además, los hombres jóvenes no deberían tener miedo o vergüenza de acudir al doctor ya que eso puede salvar tu vida. Quiero alentar a los jóvenes, especialmente a los latinos a que se hagan los exámenes físicos. Si hay algo que anda mal con tu cuerpo, no hay que tener miedo a averiguarlo. Podrías tener cáncer y no saberlo.

A Gay Young Man Surviving Cancer

Alberto: Why are you interested in sharing you fight with cancer with the readers of Adelante Magazine?
Freddy: I believe that young Latinos are often afraid of going to the doctor to get medical check-ups. Doctors tell me that guys my age don’t go get the regular examinations they need. Because of this, if something bad is going on like cancer, by the time they find out their illness has already advanced. In the case of cancer, many do not discover they have cancer until it has already spread. In my case, I waited too long. They told me I only had one year to live.

Alberto: How did you find out you had cancer?
Freddy: I woke up one day in really bad pain. I ignored it. I took aspirin. The pain was in my stomach, chest and lungs. That’s where the cancer was. Then I got pneumonia in my lungs. I went to the hospital.

At the hospital, one of the doctors came out and said “are you aware that you have cancer?” The x-rays showed little tumors in my lungs and a big tumor in my stomach. They started giving me medication to treat the pneumonia. When the pneumonia cleared up they started treating the cancer. They gave me one year to live.

It was not a specialty hospital and they were just going to give me treatment there and send me home to be comfortable and die. That’s when my mom got angry and started looking around for other treatments.

Then we found the City of Hope in Duarte. They told me I would be fine, would go through treatments and that it was going to be really hard. They told me not to worry. They told me they would do all they could to save my life. I was in the hospital on chemotherapy and radiation. My hair fell out and my eyebrows fell out. I fought and I fought. Eventually, they told me that my blood was going back to normal. They saved my life.

Alberto: When seeking treatment, did they treat you differently because you are gay?
Freddy: At the first hospital one of the nurses asked me if I was sexually active. He thought it was something like an STD or HIV, or something like that. When I told him I was gay, he was like “oh, you are?” “How many sexual partners have you had?” “Do you know that you guys are spreading HIV and STDs?” I said “well, are you guys sure that I got that?” The doctor said no, “we are going to check that right now.” He later came back and said, “you don’t have that, but you have cancer.”

Alberto: Did he apologize for the attitude?
Freddy: No, I complained because of that attitude and also because they just wanted to send me home to die.

Alberto: What were your thoughts when they first told you that you only had like a year to live?
Freddy: I cried. I was only 19. I was thinking why did this happen to me? My second thought was “what will happen to my family? I didn’t want to hurt my family…I couldn’t leave my family. I could not wrap my head around me only living one year. The whole time I was in the hospital I was confused and in a daze. How was I going to let everyone know that I was not going to live very long? I kept asking God why?

I looked back on my family history and no one in my family had cancer. Then I read on the inter-net that cancer can skip generations. I did find out that cancer ran in my family years ago.

Alberto: What’s your situation right now?
Freddy: I still have it and I had a biopsy done three weeks ago. I still don’t have the results and they told me that they are running more tests because they see scar tissue and a tumor growing. It is not active but if I wait more or they don’t do treatment it could be bad. They will let me know what the appropriate treatment is, more chemotherapy or radiation.

Alberto: What were your reactions to the chemotherapy?
Freddy: There are different types of treatment. It can be harsh. Basically, it’s like having a really bad flu. You have headaches. You have stomachaches and severe nausea. I thought that I would never have to need that again. That the cancer was going into remission. They told me for a couple of years I would be fine, but that it can sneak up on me again and catch me by surprise. I went back into that depression mode, like I didn’t want to deal with it any more.

Alberto: Do you feel depressed?
Freddy: No. When I do I have my family around and my friends. They build my spirits up and they remind me that I fought it before. They try to give me assurance that things will be ok. But I do fall in and out of that depression mode at times.

Alberto: What you do with your life right now, are you working? Are you studying?
Freddy: I finished medical assistant training in 2010. I’m doing temporary work in the medical field. I go to different clinics and hospitals. I also dance as a go-go boy. Sometimes I volunteer to speak at different places. I tell my story and try to give hope to those who are in my same situation.

Alberto: What are your hobbies?
Freddy: I like poetry. Right now I’m collecting stuffed monkeys. Every time I go somewhere and I see monkey, I buy it. In the corner of my room I have piles of monkeys. People know that I like monkeys so when they see me they give me a monkey. I like to mix music with my laptop. I like to make new sounds. I go out with my nephew to play basketball at the park. There are some things that physically I can’t do right now.

Alberto: What are your hopes and your thoughts for the future?
Freddy: That I survive this. I don’t want to go through what I went through years ago, but if I have to I will. In the future I just hope that I have more of a voice to let other people know my story and be settled down and have my own space and forget about the pain that it caused and seeing other people looking at me with that ‘sympathy’ look. I don’t want to see that pain in people’s eyes when they see me sick.

Alberto: Where do you picture yourself five years from now?
Freddy:I want to be working as a full time nurse at the City of Hope Hospital. I need to finish nursing school. I want be healthy and cancer free.

Alberto: Anything that you would like to tell our readers?
Freddy: If you know anybody that is going through what I am or any other type of disease, all they need is support. They need friends and family and they need the boost of energy to know that you are there for them.

Also, young men shouldn’t be afraid or embarrassed to go to the doctor because it can save your life. I want to encourage young men especially Latinos to go get physical exams. If there is something wrong with your body, you can’t be afraid to find out. Like with cancer.

Podemos definir inteligencia de muchas maneras, pero por lo general se identifica a la inteligencia con la capacidad de analizar situaciones, entender las conexiones entre diferentes variables y sacar conclusiones apropiadas. Las pruebas de inteligencia se enfocan justamente en eso, en la capacidad que tienen las personas para tomar decisiones de acuerdo a diferentes variables que se les presentan. La inteligencia se desarrolla y aunque tiene un componente genético, (podemos decir que se nace con un nivel de inteligencia específico), también se desarrolla en la medida en que las personas son motivada y tengan la oportunidad de recibir estimulación y entrenamientos adecuados. La inteligencia es muy importante para tomar decisiones, analizar situaciones y entender temas complejos.

Hay personas que tienen un nivel muy alto de inteligencia y sin embargo no son exitosas. ¿Cómo podemos explicar eso? ¡Algunas personas no aplican su inteligencia para conseguir lo que quieren! Saben lo que tienen que hacer pero no lo hacen. Hay personas que son muy inteligentes y tienen un coeficiente de inteligencia alto pero no lo aplican en su vida laboral o personal. Por ejemplo, hay personas que no utilizan su alto nivel de inteligencia al relacionarse con otras personas. Pierden la paciencia rápidamente y sienten que las otras personas son muy lentas para entender las cosas o llegar a conclusiones. Puede que hasta les cueste desarrollar amistades. En mi trabajo con ejecutivos me ha tocado trabajar con gente con coeficientes de inteligencia muy altos pero que nadie quiere trabajar con ellos por ser arrogantes o impacientes.

Por otro lado, el sentido común, es la capacidad de usar nuestras experiencias de vida para analizar situaciones y tomar decisiones. Es la inteligencia que se adquiere en “la calle” el sentido común, lamentablemente no es muy “común”. Quiero decir que muchas veces las personas hacen cosas y toman decisiones que no tienen mucho sentido o que parece que no tomaban en cuenta ciertas variables que podrían ser obvias para otras personas. O toman decisiones que perjudican a muchas personas incluyendo a ellos mismos. El sentido común se relaciona con la “sabiduría” y podría estar relacionado con la capacidad de usar los conocimientos y experiencias obtenidos a lo largo de la vida para tomar las mejores decisiones posibles.

Considero que el sentido común y la inteligencia por si solos no son suficientes para alcanzar el éxito en nuestras vidas. Los dos dependen de el compromiso, la disciplina y el trabajo para poner nuestras capacidades a trabajar. En otras palabras, para alcanzar el éxito en nuestras vidas la inteligencia y el sentido común no son suficientes. Se requiere trabajo, planificación, disciplina, coraje para tomar riesgos si es necesario y el apoyo de personas en las que confiemos. Esto es muy importante porque puede ser que en el proceso de tomar decisiones importantes, no estemos prestando atención a ciertas variables que pueden producir resultados que no son los esperados, por esa razón, es siempre importante pedir feedback, opiniones, sugerencias a nuestros colegas o seres queridos cuando tenemos que tomar decisiones importantes.

Estar conscientes de que hay cosas que no sabemos nos permite estar abiertos a nuevas posibilidades de aprendizaje y de acción. ¿Podríamos decir que el pedir ayuda es un ejemplo de sentido común? Creo que sí.

Primero analizaremos los Pros y Contras de ambos.

Condominios

A favor de los condominios, ellos ofrecen un hogar sin tanto mantenimiento. Si a ti no te gusta hacer trabajos manuales, tener un grupo encargado de el mantenimiento y cuidado es definitivamente una ventaja.
También, locación es una ventaja de los condominios ya que ofrecen la opción de vivir en el centro de una ciudad. Muchos de los condominios se encuentran localizados en zonas urbanas donde puedes caminar a tiendas, restaurantes, cafés, teatros, etc.

Los Condominios tienen cobros mensuales destinados a pagar el mantenimiento. El dinero se junta por medio de una asociación de vecinos. Este pago mensual en adición de el pago de la hipoteca pudiese llegar a ser más alto que el pago de una casa de el mismo valor.
Además, las decisiones de los edificios son tomadas por la asociación, así que si se paga por reparaciones o sueldos de empleados de el edificio, el dinero será puesto por los dueños de los condominios sin que ellos tengan una relación directa en las decisiones.

Casas

A favor de las casas diremos que son mejores para familias, ya que tienen sus propios jardines y generalmente son más amplias que los condominios. Los jardines se pueden cerrar con una barda para que los niños puedan salir a jugar. Este espacio también provee la opción de tener mascotas que no son permitidas en un condominio.
Además, no solo los niños necesitan más espacio, varios adultos que viven en pareja pueden beneficiarse con los cuartos extras. Igual, si trabajas desde tu casa o tienes un pasatiempo puedes tener un lugar especial para ello.

En contra de las Casas

El mantenimiento de una casa es responsabilidad única de el dueño. Mientras más grande sea la propiedad más dinero puedes gastar en mantenerla.
Otro punto que hay que tomar en cuenta es que más espacio en la casa también representa más muebles, además de más gastos para mantener el jardín. También es importante tomar en cuenta que las casas gastan más dinero en facturas mensuales.

Condominium vs. House

Dear Adelante friends, “Feliz Cinco de Mayo”! Thank you very much for your calls and e-mails. Please keep sending questions. Your interests and inspiration are a priority when I write this article. This month, one of the most asked questions was, “What is better for me, a condominium or house?”

Let’s analyze the Pros and Cons of purchasing a condominium versus a house.

Condominium:

PROS: They are easier to maintain. For those who have a busy life, a condo can offer a home that is free of yard work and many home maintenance responsibilities. If you are not a “Do It Yourself” kind of person, having a crew of people hired by the Home Owners Association (HOA) to take care of these responsibilities is a big plus. Also, location, location, location! Condos can provide a enticing option of typically living right in the heart of many cities. Several of the urban condos are located within a short walking distance to amenities such as grocery stores, cafes, shops and theaters.

CONS: We know that condos have HOA fees, which are commonly due every month. These fees go toward the collective upkeep and development of the property. Combine these monthly fees with the mortgage payments and you can sometimes end up paying more per month for a condo than a house of equal value.

In addition, the decision to make changes to the condo routinely is a shared decision among board members of the HOA. When it comes down to spending the money, the decision is submitted and approved or disapproved by the HOA board. This includes major expenses such as roof replacement, etc.

House:

PROS: Houses are more “family friendly”, typically having their own yards and generally more square footage. Houses also allow the option of having pets that may not be permitted in a condo. Also, the additional extra space can be used either for family gatherings or can provide extra rooms for offices, etc.

CONS: When you own your own house you are responsible for all maintenance. The bigger the property the more time and money you can end up sinking into it. In addition, all the extra space requires additional furniture. Yard space required gardening. The additional cost for indoor/outdoor lighting, air conditioning and heating may add a greater financial burden.

I have just come out. I’m 28 years old. I came out to my family, my friends and my co-workers. I regret telling anyone that I’m a fag. I never should have done it. They treat me like shit!

Everything has changed since I told people. My best friend from high school wont’ call me, facebook me or anything else. My co-workers always stop talking when I come up to them. They are talking about me for sure.

My family said they always knew and they are pretty cool, but my cousin is the same as my friend. I don’t fit in at work or in my life anymore. It sucks to be gay and I hate it.

Even my boss told me I should not have told anyone. Now I am working late shifts and I used to work early shifts? That is prejudice, but if I say anything, then it will make it worse.

Noone likes me

Dear NLMCIG:

I think it is you who does not like yourself. I think you must first accept that you are gay. I strongly recommend that you seek a therapist who specializes in and works with the gay community.

I think that you may be drawing people to you, as you always have, who are prejudice. You may have drawn them consciously or subconsciously because you wanted to appear straight by choosing straight, prejudice people.

You may be misinterpreting some of the things that are happening to you as you are defensive and uncomfortable. Sometimes people do not know how to respond because you do not accept yourself.

Your boss was wrong! You absolutely should report him. You may symbolically accept yourself by reporting his abuse.

Please get professional help. We all have issues in accepting ourselves. I had a girlfriend who wanted to be an actress, but she said that she lost every job because she had curly hair instead of straight. She hated her hair big time.

I think she went in to each audition with it in her head that she would never get the gig because of her curly hair, and I am sorry to say, she never did get a gig.

Find friends who are gay. Surrounding yourself with acceptance may help you to accept yourself. Get support. Feel the love. Some of us really dig fags.

Dear Maria:

I am a lesbian. I love my job, but recently, a co-worker told me that she overheard the manager and his supervisor talking about giving me a promotion.

It was between me and another girl, who is not a les. My friend said that the manager wanted to give me the job, but that the supervisor said no because I am gay. The other girl who has only been there a few months got the promotion. I have been there for two years and four months.

It is not just my opinion, everyone who works there and the customers, all say I am way better. She is late sometimes and she calls in sick more than me and she does not clean the main office after she finishes her shift. I am never late and I always clean up.

I spoke with the manager and asked him if he did not promote me because I am gay. He said that the supervisor made the decision. He would not say if it was because I am gay. All he said was that the supervisor said he thought the other girl was more suited to the job.

Discriminated Against

Dear DA:

This situation requires legal advice and I am not qualified. You should definitely speak with someone who can advise you legally. The legal system supports and protects the rights of the community. The laws are there for a reason.

My thoughts are that you could start a petition, or have your customers and co-workers give you written support. I would speak with the supervisor. Immediately after the conversation write down word for word every thing that is said. Be completely truthful. Take someone with you as a witness if you can. Again, I do not know the laws, so speak with someone who does first.

What I can tell you is that sometimes we are chosen, so to speak, to stand up for a group of people. A woman who is raped may feel the need to prosecute the rapist so that he can do no harm to anyone else. Martin Luther King paid the ultimate price for Equal Rights.

There are many heroes who have made life better for those who cannot speak for themselves. I am not suggesting that you must stand up. I am suggesting that perhaps, this situation has come into your life because you are a hero waiting to do your hero-stuff.
