ByMolly Kleinman, Summer Intern, Bolour Immigration Group Sunday, June 23, 2019 was meant to be the start of sweeping immigration raids in more than a dozen cities by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The raid would have targeted approximately 140 individuals in Southern California and 2,000 nation-wide. However, on Saturday, June 22, 2019 Trump delayed the raids by two weeks. While this is certainly a relief for anyone who may be a target of ICE, it is still important for everyone, documented or not, to be aware of their rights. Every person in the United States, citizen or not,…

By: Kevin Ayala, Law Clerk, Bolour Immigration Group In April 2017, then Attorney General, Jefferson Sessions, sent out a memo focusing the administration’s anti-immigration efforts to “establish lawfulness in our immigration system” and prioritize prosecution of “alien smuggling”.This was sold to the public as a safety measure to combat the “bad hombres”, and other specters conjured by the administration. The Immigrant Legal Resource Center summarized the definition of smuggler as, “any person who knowingly has encouraged, induced, assisted, abetted, or aided any other person to enter or try to enter the United States illegally”; noting the broad language also applied…

By Kevin Ayala, Law Clerk – Bolour Immigration Group The office of Rep. Ted Deutch of Florida and journalists at Axios, released documents detailing shocking allegations of 4,556 instances of abuse of unaccompanied minors (UAM) during fiscal years 2015-2018. https://www.axios.com/immigration-unaccompanied-minors-sexual-assault-3222e230-29e1-430f-a361-d959c88c5d8c.html Most of the sexual acts were conducted between children at these shelters, though at least 178 were with staff, and 254 were with unknown persons. While the events are themselves appalling, the descriptions revolting, and disappointingly not complete, they’re also illuminating. These horrendous acts occurred during both Trump and Obama’s Administrations. Hence the problem is not isolated; they are institutional.…
