BIENESTAR ha establecido como prioridad la eliminación de la discriminación y el estigma contra la comunidad Gay, Lésbica, Bisexual y Transgénero (GLBT). La agencia lanzó la primera fase de su más reciente campaña contra la homofobia con el objetivo de incrementar la concientización de la familia, en particular de las madres para apoyar y aceptar a sus hijos GLBT. El eslogan de esta campaña es “La Homofobia no tiene lugar en el corazón de una madre”.
La segunda fase de esta campaña será en el mes de mayo en conmemoración del Día de la Madre y te invitamos a que tú y tú mamá se unan a ella de las siguientes formas: Enviando una foto o un video de ustedes para su publicación en diferentes medios electrónicos, enfatizando la importancia del apoyo materno, y el día 10 de mayo cambiando tu foto en tu perfil de Facebook con una foto tuya de niño o con tu mamá. La famosa conductora de Univisión Radio y psicóloga Dra. Isabel, “El Ángel de la Radio” y su hijo Eric Vasallo, quien es un activista gay y luchan por la igualdad de la comunidad GLBT, son los portavoces de esta iniciativa. En el programa de radio donde se abordó el tema de la campaña participaron Oscar De La O, Director Ejecutivo, Robert Contreras, Sub-Director de BIENESTAR y padres y madres de hijos gays, compartieron sus historias y fue evidente la necesidad de este tipo de iniciativas, debido al gran número de llamadas recibidas incluyendo la de una madre buscando ayuda urgente debido a que su hija lesbiana se había intentado suicidar en repetidas ocasiones. Esta llamada ilustra la gran necesidad de este tipo de campañas.
La Dra. Isabel enfatizó la necesidad del apoyo familiar y reitero que la familia es el refugio primario y fuente de fortaleza. Por su parte Oscar De La O mencionó que “en nuestra comunidad latina la familia es lo más importante, sin embargo los valores familiares fallan cuando los hijos son rechazados por su madre o su padre simplemente por ser gay, lesbiana, bisexual o transgénero.
Con esta campaña BIENESTAR continúa su serie de campañas que han incluido a celebridades como la famosa actriz y cantante mexicana Angélica Vale, la actriz internacional Kate Del Castillo y la reconocida cantante regional mexicana Graciela Beltrán, La Reina del Pueblo.
BIENESTAR Launches Campaign against Homophobia in Celebration of Mother’s Day
BIENESTAR prioritizes the elimination of stigma and discrimination against Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) communities. The agency announced the launch of our latest anti-homophobia initiative to increase awareness of family unity. The campaign is a direct call to action for mothers to support and accept their LGBT children. The slogan of the campaign is “Homophobia does not have a place in a Mother’s Heart”.
The second phase of this campaign will launch in May in celebration of Mother’s Day and we invite you and your mom to join this campaign in the following ways: By sending a photo or video of you for publication in various electronic media, emphasizing the importance of maternal support, and on May 10 changing your profile picture on Facebook with a picture of you when you were a child or with your mom. A special radio program took place which addressed the theme of the campaign. Oscar De La O, Executive Director of BIENESTAR, joined parents of gay children to share their stories. The need for these types of initiatives was clear due to the large number of calls received including a mother looking for urgent help because her lesbian daughter had attempted suicide on several occasions.
Dr. Isabel emphasized the need for family support and reiterated that the family is the primary shelter and source of strength. Oscar De La O mentioned that “in the Latino community the family is the most important value but fail when the children are rejected by their mother or father just for being gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender”.
