Rapper/songwriter Bryce Quartz had an interest in music long before he wanted to be a rapper and had been in three different cover punk bands in middle school. A huge inspiration was his sister who is a musician who also sang and wrote her own songs with indie solo stuff. That was until their family kind of beat it out of her, explains Bryce. So, it made him not following his sister’s footsteps to be a musician.
Bryce was born and raised in North Carolina, and grew up in a very Southern Baptist Christian family home. His family wasn’t too accepting when he came out as a gay teen, but at the age of eighteen was when he basically said to them, “Get over it!” He is still not on speaking terms with his parents and a lot of that was kind of miserable for him growing up in their household, going to conversion therapy a few times was challenging for him. After moving out of his parent’s home and moving around the country a few times, when he was in his early twenties he moved back to North Carolina, and asked himself, “what am I going to do with my life?”
It wasn’t until he heard of a band called Brockhampton, with a lead artist named Kevin Abstract, that gave him the motivation to start rapping after hearing a line that talks about “there’s not enough rappers that are gay,” Something in those lyrics, just clicked with him and he told himself, “Why don’t I do it?”
So he started making music but claims he was horrible the first few years compared to now, which is more refined and polished. He also made a promise to himself that he wasn’t going to rap about gay sex, “I’m not gonna be that gay rapper.” Fast forward four years later and after he started to make music around 2021. He was just messing around and writing music, trying to practice with his word play and penmanship, and wrote a song called Good Morning BQ in like 30 minutes and he posted a snippet on TikTok and it went viral just like that!
So, now he writes about gay sex because he knows people like it. Times are changing now, and a lot more queer artist that are up and coming are in the industry now. Like Lil Nas X who actually wasn’t out in the beginning of his career but is very much so now. What Bryce is doing is not for the faint of heart, and he’s not exactly doing it to go mainstream which he says he doesn’t care for. Bryce is making this music because he thinks it’s hot and sexy, and his fans love that. Bryce had fun making it and is proud of it.
Cakes Da Killa, is also someone Bryce says motivated him to start rapping as a gay artist as well as many straight rappers, such as Cupcakke. Bryce says he considers himself a guest in the house of hip-hop and says this art form was definitely created by people of color and says a lot of his inspirations are people of color. “Making music is very cathartic,” says Bryce. “It’s something I loved to do, nothing like writing a song and getting that feeling of completing it, like a drug.”
Bryce admits he doesn’t look like a typical rapper and some people can be shocked when he does get on stage and takes his shirt off. But that is where he comes alive. Off stage, Bryce is into street ware, sneakers and hoodies. On stage it’s a lot different, he’ll ware jockstraps and leather, while rapping. There’s not a lot of rappers half naked on stage rapping about gay sex, but to Bryce it’s all fun.
Bryce was the fat kid in school and hated his body for a while, but when he discovered the gay bear community, nowadays he is not concerned about his weight, and thinks guys bigger than him are hot. The least of his worries is his body, he has moved on and said, “fuck it!” Bryce doesn’t care what people think and being a rapper helped that confidence come to life on that stage and the rap persona he has.
Bryce writes his own songs after he finds a beat he really likes; he feels it out and claims he had no music training. With rapping about gay sex, Bryce says there’s so many things to rap about, it has open so many doors for him. He likes to be funny, corny and horny for the gay community and to be real as fuck and funny as fuck. If a straight person is listening to his songs, he wants them to cringe to it. But if a gay person is listening, he wants their dicks to get hard!
One of Bryce’s songs is called Cum Pirate and is very explicit, like his videos that have realism to them. Another other song is called Daddy dicks, where he is being fucked by many daddies in the video. Which is what sets him apart from other rappers. Bryce doesn’t like the term ‘gay rapper’, he considers himself a rapper that’s gay.
Rapping is his life and he definitely goes out of his way to live and breathe his music, but he also plays video games and hangs out with his friends. Not every moment is cum and dick like his music. It’s a lot of work and is his passion. Bryce is working on other material. Bryce is single, but has a crush on a special daddy somewhere out there. Bryce is also launching a full line of merch and has a lot more to offer in the near future.
