También he pintado hombres desnudos solos.

Chuparrosas:

the art of VÍCTOR SOLÍS

I think that my art represents my experiences, both in Mexico and in this country. My art is poetic surrealism because within the images I try to introduce layers of information that either complement the piece or interact with it.

Paintings of street vendors:
I gave myself the task of exploring the life of street vendors in Los Angeles, interviewed them and ask them about their life. They handle two products, peanuts and oranges. The reality behind this activity is not very colorful. The merchandise does not belong to them, and usually they work for someone else, but they are responsible for the goods, and if the merchandise is seized by the police they must pay 100% back to the owners, although the sale only has a 20% commission. All this was very impressive to me. That is why I have many paintings related to this topic.

Eroticism:
The majority of male figures I paint are nudes, and are somehow maintaining a relationship with animals. I have also painted male nudes by themselves.

Hummingbird:
The hummingbird is an element that I started to explore a year ago. I believe the hummingbird is my spiritual animal and the way in which I find the hummingbird sporadically is very peculiar. There are moments that I need to find an answer to something that I am living, or trying to solve, that becomes as a communion. I tend to have a very short dialogue before the disappearing hummingbird. I wanted to capture the hummingbird in very diverse forms, beautify them, and put a part of me into them. Each and everyone I paint are different. Even the flower that they are sucking on.

Materials:
I only use acrylic. It is a very accessible material and it dries quickly and I like seeing results immediately. It is easy to handle and you do not have to wait one month to apply another layer like is the case with oil. I have also painted on cloth, wood and stone.

Recurring themes:
I tend to handle topics and stick to them for many years. Topics that make sense for me, and help me to explore my culture and my roots. I Always know exactly what I am going to paint and the the direction I want to take.

Exhibitions:
I have exhibited in different places here in Los Angeles. I am currently preparering for an exhibit of paintings of wrestlers. Not too long ago I had a couple of exhibits in Highland Park.
