Las elecciones ya pasaron, y nuestros líderes electos deben estar de regreso trabajando, que es para lo que fueron electos. En sus listas de cosas para hacer debe estar enviar una Reforma de Inmigración Completa (CIR por sus siglas en inglés) al Presidente antes de que termine el verano. Aqui te muestro algunas de las razones que encuentro de por qué esto TIENE QUE pasar.
• Las auto-deportaciones nunca fueron una solución. Asi que, a menos que el plan sea dejar a millones de personas sin contar en una sociedad civil, tenemos que proveerles con un mecanismo que les lleve a la ciudadanía y equidad.
• Deportar a cada indocumentado a un precio promedio de $30,000 no es posible. Simplemente no tenemos el dinero.
• Necesitamos desesperadamente incrementar la recaudación de impuestos. Una vez que se implemente un proceso de legalización, millones de personas podrán pagar sus impuestos federales, estatales y locales.
• CIR es esencialmente un estímulo económico sin el título. Los nuevos inmigrantes documentados podrán comprar casas, obtener prestamos, comprar autos, seguros, y otras cosas. Este incremento en la actividad económica promoverá el crecimiento, creará trabajos, e inyectará efectivo al sistema, lo cual nos beneficiará a todos.
• Hoy, más que nunca, tenemos que estar vigilantes con nuestra seguridad nacional. Qué mejor manera de mejorar nuestra seguridad que contar de manera apropiada a cada persona que vive en este país.
• Una vez que legalicemos a los millones de indocumentados que tienen raíces profundas en nuestro país, será mucho más manejable deportar a aquellos criminales peligrosos que presentan una amenaza para nuestra seguridad.
Estos no son simples puntos por mencionar. Son realidades que se debatirán el próximo mes en Los Ángeles.

Comprehensive Immigration Reform (CIR)
The elections are now over and our our elected leaders should be back at work doing what they were elected to do. High on their list should be a Comprehensive Immigration Reform (CIR) bill sent to the President no later than this summer. Here are just a few of my reasons as to why this MUST happen.
Self deportation has never been a solution. So unless we plan to leave millions of people unaccounted for in our civil society, we have to provide them with a mechanism towards full citizenship and equality;
Deporting every undocumented individual at an average price tag of $30,000 per person is not possible. We simply don’t have the money;
We desparately need higher tax revenue. Once a legalization process is implemented, millions of individuals will be able to pay their full share of federal, state, and local taxes;
CIR is essentially an economic stimulus bill without the price tag. The new documented immigrants will be able to buy homes, get loans, buy cars, insurance, and other goods. Such an increase in economic activity will promote growth, create jobs, and infuse cash in the system which will benefit everyone;
Today, more than ever, we need to be vigilant about our nation’s security. What better way to enhace our security than to properly account for everyeone who lives in this country;
Once we legalize the millions of undocumented individuals with deep roots in our country, it will be much more managable to deport those dangerous criminals who present a threat to our safety;
These are not just talking points. They are facts which are going to be debated next month in Los Angeles.
I’m proud to announce that the American Immigration Council (AIC) – where I serve on its Board of Trustees, and my law school, Southwestern University, will co-host a panel discussion about CIR on Thursday January 24, 2013 at 6 PM in Los Angeles. Please mark your calendars to attend this gathering of highly influencial and knowledagble panelists on both sides of this debate. Attendance is free.
