Zevallos has also made his mark in the Marvel universe with his role in the popular series Cloak & Dagger. Jaime Zevallos gave this exclusive interview to Adelante Magazine:
Q – You’ve had an impressive career as an actor and you’re featured in the upcoming The Kill Floor. But breaking into acting and maintain a career as a working actor has become increasingly difficult. Beyond talent, personal qualities like intelligence, self-mastery are very important. What has been your formula for success, in your view?
Jaime Zevallos: To be honest, from my point of view it was never easy or easier to maintain a career as an actor. It takes perseverance. However, I will say it may seem more difficult now because there is more content and more actors than ever before. And with social media you have a cross-over of platforms.
My formula for success is simple. Stay in the game and eventually you get to play.
Q – What was the most surprising thing you learned while making The Kill Floor?
Jaime Zevallos: That these events actually happened in different places across America during the pandemic. A lot of undocumented workers kept working and slipped through the cracks. Not everyone was so lucky to get PPE loans or get government hand outs during that difficult time.
Q – What an honor to be asked to play the poet Edgar Allen Poe in The Ghost & the Whale. What did you do to prepare for such an icon role?
Jaime Zevallos: Total honor! I love his Poems. I studied his life and tried to see the world from his point of view. But it was definitely my own spin on it. I took some poetic license. No pun intended. LOL.
Q – At over 6’2″ tall, you remind me a bit of the great Cesar Romero, the Cuban actor who started his acting career in the 1930s and played the first Joker in the 60s. What is your dream role? Is there anyone you’d like to work with?
Jaime Zevallos: Yes Latinos are and can be tall. We come in all shapes and sizes. 🙂
I loved Cesar Romero. One of the best to ever do it. My dream role doesn’t exist. I would say my dream “career” is to keep working in healthy environment with good people. That’s how I think these days. I would love to work with “The Rock”. He seems like an over-all cool dude and someone fun to be around.
Q – We heard that you are something of a theater buff. Who is your favorite playwright and why?
Jaime Zevallos: My favorite playwright is Anton Chekov. His work keeps me guessing, wondering and his plays all feel very relevant today. I love being intrigued by great writing and mostly challenged by a playwright. Great Answer! You clearly know your stuff.
Q – Are you focusing primarily on acting, writing or directing at this stage? What’s next for you?
Jaime Zevallos: Primarily acting these days as it’s my first love but I hope to write as much as possible.
Am writing a new feature film and looking for a new play to sink my teeth into. Something that will enrich me not only as an artist but as a person.

Q – Has tenido una impresionante carrera como actor y apareces en la próxima The Kill Floor. Pero abrirse camino en el mundo de la interpretación y mantener una carrera como actor en activo es cada vez más difícil. Más allá del talento, cualidades personales como la inteligencia y el dominio de uno mismo son muy importantes. En su opinión, ¿cuál ha sido su fórmula para el éxito?
Jaime Zevallos: Para ser honesto, desde mi punto de vista nunca fue fácil ni sencillo mantener una carrera como actor. Hace falta perseverancia. Sin embargo, diré que ahora puede parecer más difícil porque hay más contenido y más actores que nunca. Y con las redes sociales tienes un cruce de plataformas.
Mi fórmula para el éxito es sencilla. Mantente en el juego y al final te tocará jugar.
Q – ¿Qué fue lo más sorprendente que aprendió durante la realización de The Kill Floor?
Jaime Zevallos: Que estos hechos ocurrieron realmente en distintos lugares de Estados Unidos durante la pandemia. Muchos trabajadores indocumentados siguieron trabajando y pasaron desapercibidos. No todo el mundo tuvo la suerte de conseguir préstamos PPE o de recibir ayudas del gobierno durante esa época tan difícil.
Q – Qué honor que le pidieran que interpretara al poeta Edgar Allen Poe en The Ghost & the Whale. ¿Qué hizo para prepararse para un papel tan emblemático?
Jaime Zevallos: Todo un honor. Me encantan sus poemas. Estudié su vida e intenté ver el mundo desde su punto de vista. Pero sin duda le di mi propio giro. Me tomé algunas licencias poéticas. No es un juego de palabras. LOL.
Q – Con su 1,90 de estatura, me recuerda un poco al gran César Romero, el actor cubano que comenzó su carrera como actor en los años 30 e interpretó al primer Joker en los 60. ¿Qué papel sueña interpretar? ¿Cuál es el papel de sus sueños? ¿Hay alguien con quien te gustaría trabajar?
Jaime Zevallos: Sí, los latinos somos y podemos ser altos. Los hay de todas las formas y tamaños 🙂
Me encantaba César Romero. Uno de los mejores que ha habido. El papel de mis sueños no existe. Yo diría que mi “carrera” soñada es seguir trabajando en un ambiente sano con buena gente. Así es como pienso hoy en día. Me encantaría trabajar con “The Rock”. Parece un tipo genial y divertido.
Q – Hemos oído que le gusta mucho el teatro. ¿Cuál es su dramaturgo favorito y por qué?
Jaime Zevallos: Mi dramaturgo favorito es Anton Chekov. Su obra me mantiene intrigado y sus obras me parecen muy actuales. Me encanta que un dramaturgo me intrigue y, sobre todo, me desafíe. Gran respuesta. Está claro que sabe lo que hace.
Q – ¿Se centra ahora principalmente en actuar, escribir o dirigir? ¿Qué es lo próximo para ti?
Jaime Zevallos: Principalmente actuar, ya que es mi primer amor, pero espero escribir tanto como sea posible.
Estoy escribiendo un nuevo largometraje y buscando una nueva obra de teatro a la que hincarle el diente. Algo que me enriquezca no sólo como artista sino como persona.
