Adding Spice to the Salsa

For those diehard fans of RuPaul’s Drag Race, Season 14 is not disappointing. With the season underway, we have had the opportunity to meet and know ‘Jorgeous,’ who describes herself as a “fierce performer, who was born to do drag.”

Born and raised to a Mexican American family in San Antonio, Texas, Jorge Meza is 22 years old and is a Sagittarius with her birthday on November 27th. The name Jorgeous came from the word “gorgeous” and her ‘boy name’ Jorge, which people like to whitewash and say George.

Early Life in Texas

Ever since she was 5 years old, this is exactly what she has wanted to do. Her first public performance in drag was at the age of 16. Even though she was underage for the performance, all her family helped pack the bar to watch her debut.

Early days of drag were not easy, and she took a job at McDonalds to help pay for her drag wardrobe. Jorgeous describes the drag scene in Texas to be very pageantry and “cookie-cutter drag,” where everyone there is doing about the same thing. She considers herself a showgirl, revolving around dancing, choreography, with flips and dips.

She defines her drag styles a “Hella Tex-Mex” and was inspired to start drag watching the 1995 movie classic “Too Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything Julie Newmar” where Chi-Chi Rodriguez (played by John Leguizamo) was her main inspiration, saying “because I felt like I related to her the most.”

As the Competition Heats Up

While this competition continues, she has already developed a few memorable quotes such as “I might be small, but I pack a big punch” and “I cannot do the splits, for nothing, for nobody.”    Her favorite words see to be “Oh my God” based on the number of times she says them.

On one of the episodes of Untucked, she shared with the audience that her older brother is also gay and helped give her the confidence being out and doing drag. When talking about the competition on RuPaul’s Drag Race, she says, “I came to win because there’s never been a short, Latina winner and it’s my turn – it’s my time.” She also says she looks amazing in a crown.

Jorgeous currently lives in Nashville, Tennessee and we have the feeling that she is going to go very far in this season of the drag race competition and has a great chance of taking that crown home with her!
