Estoy profundamente arraigado a la realidad de las familias trabajadoras. Yo nací en la parte unincorporada del Este de Los Ángeles dentro de una familia inmigrante muy trabajadora. El crecer no estuvo fácil. Mi madre falleció cuando yo apenas tenía ocho años, y yo trabajé de medio tiempo mientras terminaba la escuela para ayudar con los gastos familiares.
He tenido la suerte de haber tenido muchas oportunidades de estudio y de trabajo. Ahora ya estoy preparado para luchar para abrir pasos de oportunidad que han hecho mi desarrollo posible, y en el cual la recuperación económica de nuestro Estado y nuestro futuro tanto dependen.

Por más de una década, yo he luchado por el acceso a servicios de salud para comunidades marginadas. Desde dirigir programas sin fines de lucro que dan servicios de salud para comunidades latinas, hasta defender programas de salud de la comunidad para niños y personas de la tercera edad, hasta luchar por incrementos a los fundos del VIH/SIDA, yo he demostrado un fuerte liderazgo en el sector de salud.

Luis López: With Our Votes, He Will Win
I am running to represent all the people of my 51st State Assembly District and get California working. This district is where I was born and where I’ve served my neighbors for 10 years.
I’m ready to bring jobs to our communities, strengthen our education, improve our healthcare, stop lethal gun violence, and fight for equality and women’s rights.
I am the only openly LGBT candidate from Southern California who would add to our representation in the state legislature who has advanced to the general election. With your help and your vote, I will win.
My mother died when I was 8 years old, and I had to work part time while finishing school to help my family survive. I was lucky to have grown up with opportunities and people who cared to guide me forward in them. This allowed me to complete my education and pursue my lifelong goal to serve our community. If elected, I will make sure these same pathways of opportunity are preserved and open for Californians now and for generations to come.
After graduating high school, I went on to earn a degree in sociology from Pomona College and a graduate degree in public policy from Harvard University. I am now a nonprofit healthcare director at L.A.’s largest community health center, Altamed. At a time when women’s rights and reproductive healthcare are under attack from some misguided politicians, I am especially proud to serve as a board member of Planned Parenthood-L.A. And I have the endorsements of Planned Parenthood Advocacy Project and the California National Organization for Women.
My community service for my district also includes 5 years as president of L.A.’s East Area Planning Commission, which takes in all of Northeast L.A., where I have lived for a decade.
As an openly gay Latino, I am committed to equality and the empowerment of LGBT people here in Eastside Los Angeles and throughout our state. I will continue to fight to achieve full equality for LGBT people and families in California. In 2005 I co-founded Honor PAC, the first statewide LGBT political action committee for Latina/os anywhere in the nation. In 2008 I stood in strong opposition to Prop 8, and helped raise funds to open the “No on Prop 8” East L.A office.
I am running for State Assembly in a time of cuts and distrust because we need proven leadership to fight for the pathways of advancement that were there for me and that are crucial for California’s long-term success. We need to fill our revenue hole and fix our budget. Voters don’t want more of Sacramento here in our communities. They want leadership from our communities in Sacramento. I will fight for you because I am part of this community. And I will always put our needs first.
