Adelante Magazine is privileged to introduce brilliantly talented makeup artist, MARCO BEAUTÉ. We were simply blown away; his makeup techniques and teaching left our team full of new knowledge. However, it was his humble and uplifting story and message that left us in awe.
MARCO BEAUTE arrived in Los Angeles at the age of 17 from El Salvador determined to fulfill his dream as a makeup artist and quickly became highly sought after by his high school peers and community theatre groups at-large within his community.
Having grown up in the Pico Union area of Los Angeles, Marco’s greatest ambitions was to work and learn from all the artists that make up the Music Center family. Since middle school, he would wander around the shadows of the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, Ahmanson Theatre, The Mark Taper Forum and the Walt Disney Concert Hall, never having the opportunity to set foot into either of the venues. And then it happened, he was invited to become an intern in the makeup department paving the way to have his talent recognized.
MARCO has a fearless style. Makeup skills admired by clients and beauty industry professionals, and a heart sweeter than El Salvador’s own pan dulce!
Why did you feel you needed to leave your country to pursue your career as a makeup artist?
It was a very difficult decision since it would be a very drastic change for me, my mother and the rest of my family I was leaving behind. I decided to come to Los Angeles to meet my father, who had abandoned us when I was 2 years old. I took this adventure without knowing how I was going to be received by my father and his new family. But because of the discrimination against homosexual men that I suffered in my country, I took the risk of pursuing my dream of becoming a professional makeup artist, which in my country would have been very difficult to achieve.
Who has been your greatest supporter in reaching your goal?
I felt very devastated to leave half of my soul that is my mother, since she has been a pillar and tower of strength that has been the most important thing in my life. The words of my mother are engraved in my heart forever: “Son, it is very difficult to let you go from my arms, but follow your dreams. Fly, fly, fly very high because your wings are strong and your inner-light and your qualities has made you a very special man. Your humility and talent will serve you well when you are at the top of your career and remember to never forget your roots and everything you have gone through in your life’s journey, go in peace my beloved son! My mom has been my biggest cheerleader.
Who inspires you?
People who fight for their dreams. People who are tenacious and never give up.
Do you have a line of makeup products?
Yes, I am currently working on my product-line under the label MARCO BEAUTÉ.
Beauté as in French that stands for beauty?
Exactly. When I was eleven years old, I had a dream that I was underneath the Eiffel tower in Paris applying makeup to my mother and grandmother. And people stopping to admire my work and exclaiming beauté, beauté!! It wasn’t until years later that I realized the meaning of the word.
How would you describe your signature look and what is it about your style that sets you apart from other makeup artists?
“The Glow”. Shimmery skin, bold eyeshadow, and neutral lips. It’s all about enhancing your features with a subtle touch—think soft and lustrous, luminous skin, and a soft contour. The total opposite of full-on glam. This techniques applies to both men and women.
What is the most important beauty advice that you can give to men?
I advise men to start with a dedicated concealer or a light-tinted moisturizer. In time, progress to mascara, guyliner, and so on, but remember; it’s not only about wearing men’s makeup but more about using products for a natural look.
• Apply Moisturizer. First, the most vital step to creating a glowing look is to moisturize your skin.
• Apply Foundation.
• Apply Concealer.
• Apply Brow and Facial Hair Filler.
• Apply Contour.
• Apply Highlighter.
• Apply Finishing Powder.
My goal is for people to admire a guy for his appearance and not for a “great makeup application.”
Does everyone look better with makeup?
Makeup has proven to really enhance a person’s looks, making them appear more attractive in the eyes of others. The manipulation of contrasts with the eyes and lips against skin tone is the key reason makeup affects the attractiveness of a person.
Which element of being a makeup artist do you most enjoy?
When a client, a performer, or a job applicant says:
• Thank you for helping me look the best version of myself!
• I look good! Thanks for making this happen!
• I’m going to take so many photos, thanks for the beautiful work you’ve delivered.

La revista Adelante tiene el privilegio de presentar al maquillista brillantemente talentoso, MARCO BEAUTÉ. Simplemente nos quedamos impresionados; sus técnicas de maquillaje y enseñanza dejaron a nuestro equipo lleno de nuevos conocimientos. Sin embargo, fue su humilde y edificante historia y mensaje lo que nos dejó asombrados.
MARCO BEAUTE llegó a Los Ángeles a la edad de 17 años de El Salvador decidido a cumplir su sueño como maquillador y rápidamente se convirtió en muy buscado por sus compañeros de secundaria y grupos de teatro comunitario en general dentro de su comunidad.
Habiendo crecido en el área de Pico Union en Los Ángeles, la mayor ambición de Marco era trabajar y aprender de todos los artistas que conforman la familia del Music Center. Desde la escuela secundaria, se paseaba por las sombras del Pabellón Dorothy Chandler, el Teatro Ahmanson, el Foro Mark Taper y el Salón de Conciertos Walt Disney, sin tener nunca la oportunidad de poner un pie en ninguno de los lugares. Y luego sucedió, lo invitaron a convertirse en pasante en el departamento de maquillaje allanando el camino para que se reconociera su talento.
MARCO tiene un estilo sin miedo. Habilidades de maquillaje admiradas por sus clientes y profesionales de la industria de la belleza, y un corazón más dulce que el mismo pan dulce de El Salvador!
¿Por qué sentiste la necesidad de dejar tu país para seguir tu carrera como maquillista?
Fue una decisión muy difícil ya que sería un cambio muy drástico para mí, mi madre y el resto de mi familia que estaba dejando atrás. Decidí venir a Los Ángeles para encontrarme con mi padre, quien nos había abandonado cuando yo tenía 2 años. Tomé esta aventura sin saber cómo iba a ser recibido por mi padre y su nueva familia. Pero debido a la discriminación contra los hombres homosexuales que sufría en mi país, me arriesgué a perseguir mi sueño de convertirme en maquillista profesional, que en mi país hubiera sido muy difícil de lograr.
¿Quién ha sido tu mayor apoyo para alcanzar tu meta?
Me sentí muy devastado de dejar la mitad de mi alma que es mi madre, ya que ella ha sido pilar y torre de fortaleza que ha sido lo más importante en mi vida. Las palabras de mi madre están grabadas en mi corazón para siempre: “Hijo, es muy difícil dejarte ir de mis brazos, pero sigue tus sueños. Vuela, vuela, vuela muy alto porque tus alas son fuertes y tu luz interior y tus cualidades te han hecho un hombre muy especial. Tu humildad y talento te servirán bien cuando estés en la cima de tu carrera y recuerda nunca olvidar tus raíces y todo lo que has pasado en el camino de tu vida, ¡Vete en paz mi amado hijo! Mi mamá ha sido mi mayor animadora.
¿Quien te inspira?
Personas que luchan por sus sueños. Personas que son tenaces y nunca se dan por vencidas.
¿Tienes una línea de productos de maquillaje?
Sí, actualmente estoy trabajando en mi línea de productos bajo la etiqueta MARCO BEAUTÉ.
¿Beauté Como en Francés significa belleza?
Exactamente. Cuando tenía once años, soñé que estaba debajo de la torre Eiffel en París maquillando a mi madre y mi abuela. Y la gente se detenía a admirar mi trabajo y exclamaba beauté!, beauté! No fue hasta años después que me di cuenta del significado de la palabra.
¿Cómo describirías tu look característico y qré tiene tu estilo que te diferencia de otros artistas de maquillaje?
“El brillo”. Piel reluciente, sombra de ojos atrevida y labios neutros. Se trata de mejorar sus características con un toque sutil: piense en una piel suave y brillante, luminosa y un contorno suave. Todo lo contrario del glamour total. Esta técnica se aplica tanto a hombres como a mujeres.
¿Cuál es el consejo de belleza más importante que puedes dar a los hombres?
Aconsejo a los hombres que comiencen con un corrector específico o una crema hidratante de color claro. Con el tiempo, progrese con rímel, delineador, etc., pero recuerde; no se trata solo de usar maquillaje, sino más bien de usar productos para una apariencia natural.
• Aplicar Crema Hidratante. Primero, el paso más importante para crear una apariencia resplandeciente es hidratar la piel.
• Aplicar Fundación.
• Aplicar Corrector.
• Aplique el relleno de vello facial y de cejas.
• Aplicar Contorno.
• Aplicar Iluminador.
• Aplicar polvo de acabado.
Mi objetivo es que la gente admire a un chico por su apariencia y no por una “gran aplicación de maquillaje”.
¿Todas se ven mejor con maquillaje?
Se ha demostrado que el maquillaje realmente mejora la apariencia de una persona, haciéndola parecer más atractiva a los ojos de los demás. La manipulación de los contrastes con los ojos y los labios contra el tono de la piel es la razón clave por la que el maquillaje afecta el atractivo de una persona.
¿Qué elemento de ser un artista de maquillaje disfruta más?
Cuando un cliente, un artista o un solicitante de empleo dice:
– ¡Gracias por ayudarme a lucir la mejor versión de mí mismo!
– ¡Luzco bien! ¡Gracias por hacer que esto suceda!
– Voy a tomar muchas fotos, gracias por el hermoso trabajo que has entregado.
