Feliz Halloween gays !!!!!!!! ¡Es hora de sacar los disfraces-saca los más gays que tengas o es tiempo de comprar uno nuevo!
Desafortunadamente, por segundo año consecutivo, el festival de West Halloween ha sido cancelado debido a COVID. Pero aún puedes disfrazarte con peluca y tacones y disfrutar de una fiesta con amigos o simplemente disfrázate de una fabulosa mariposa y te pasas la noche bailando en tu casa. Tenemos que disfrutar de la noche y hazer lo mejor de Halloween durante una pandemia. Después de todo, Halloween es como la Navidad para para nosotros gays…. Es la noche en el que puedes disfrazarte y ser lo que quieras o quien quieras sin preguntas o perjuicios.
Es una noche extraña-la verdad. ¡Los ACTIVOS se disfrazan como PASIVOS y los PASIVOS intentan disfrazarse como ACTIVOS y los VERSATILES siempre nos sorprenden! ¡La verdad chicos! Los ACTIVOS terminan siendo un “angelito” o algún disfraz con alas o eligen disfrazarse de mujer por”primera vez”. Los PASIVOS quieren ser un fuerte superhéroe masculino, como un Batman o Superman pero de alguna manera terminan agregando el toque gay al disfraz. Todos hemos visto a ese Batman o Superman con bikini o con el culo al aire libre y no faltan los policías masculinos bronceados y sin camisa. ¡Sí, muy masculino!
Halloween saca lo ACTIVO del PASIVO y lo PASIVO del ACTIVO. La verdad. Pero, la realidad es chicos, que Halloween debería ser el día en que podemos disfrazarnos con el disfraz de nuestro gusto sin ser juzgados. Sin embargo, lo hacemos. ¿Chicos, denle al MACHISMO una noche libre? ¿No podemos permitir este concepto como el “machismo” que nadie realmente sabe cómo se parece y nadie puede explicar de dónde vino, pero de alguna manera nos ha impactado y incluso hasta cuando seleccionamos o diseñamos un disfraz para la noche de Halloween. Tu disfraz no significa o define tu masculinidad ni tampoco define tu rol como PASIVO o ACTIVO. Si eres una mariposa o Batman o andas de vestida.
¡Sé TÚ y diviértete! Hay una sensación de liberación e individualidad en la noche de Halloween; un disfraz no debería ser tan complicado, pero los que hemos sido impactados por la cultura y la masculinidad tóxica, continuamos luchando por liberarnos de esta cosa horrible llamada MACHISMO. Halloween se trata de divertirte y sacar a nuestro niño interior. Es una locura cómo crecemos en una cultura que nos enseñan la vergüenza en cualquier toque de feminidad y creatividad en nosotros? ¿Te imaginas si vieras podido ser una hermosa mariposa o una princesa de Disney a la edad de 8 años y nadie de diga nada?
Imagínate si realmente pudieras celebrar Halloween cuando eras niño y permitir que tu creatividad e identidad se reflejen en tu elección de disfraces. El impacto de la masculinidad tóxica realmente puede impactar una noche como HALLOWEEN, pero usa todos tus poderes gay para no permitirlo. ¡Feliz Halloween gays!

Happy Halloween gays! It is time to get those gay costumes out honey!
Unfortunately, for the second consecutive year, the West Halloween festival has been cancelled due to COVID. But, you can still dress up and hit up a party or just be a fabulous butterfly dancing in your living room. Just make the best of it. After all, Halloween is like Christmas for us gays. It’s the time where you can dress up and be anything or anyone you want.
It’s a weird night when you think about it. The TOPS dress up as BOTTOMS and the BOTTOMS try to be TOPS and the VERSATILES always surprise us! Seriously! The TOPS end up being “angels” or something with wings or go in drag for “the first time.” The BOTTOMS want to be a strong masculine superhero-but somehow end up adding the gay touch to it. We have all seen the Batman and Superman with the jockstrap or the gay ass bikini and there is always plenty of “masculine” shirtless spray tan cops out there. Yah, very masculine!
Halloween brings out the BOTTOM in a TOP and the TOP in the BOTTOM. It’s the day that they can be as fem as they want and we won’t judge them. However, we do. Can we give MACHISMO a night off? Can we not allow this “thing” that no one knows what it looks like and no one really knows where it came from-but somehow it creeps up on us gays even when selecting or designing in a Halloween costume. Your costume doesn’t mean a damn thing about your masculinity or define your role in the bedroom. But somehow our gay locker room talk gets in the way. Whether you’re a butterfly or Batman or in drag.
Be YOU and have FUN! There is a sense of liberation and individuality about Halloween-it shouldn’t be so deep and complicated, but us Latino gay men who have been impacted by cultura and toxic masculinity struggles need liberating ourselves from this awful thing called MACHISMO. Halloween is about having fun and bringing out our inner child. Isn’t it crazy how we grow up in a culture that shames any ounce of femininity and creativity in us. Can you imagine if you were able to be a beautiful butterfly or a Disney princess at the age of 8 and it would be okay?
Imagine if you were truly able to celebrate Halloween as a kid and allow your creativity and identity to be reflected in your costume choices and ideas. The impact of toxic masculinity can truly impact a simple night like HALLOWEEN, but use all your gay powers and do not allow that to happen. Happy Halloween gays!
