“Hubo momentos en los que quise rendirme. Días terribles en los que no veía más que dolor” – dice Osvaldo Supino – “pero luego la vida de alguna manera se hace sentir, te patea, y tienes que levantarte. Hay que utilizar todos tus recursos y volver a levantarte.”
Osvaldo Supino es el artista italiano más premiado y reconocido en el extranjero, un verdadero pionero de la música italiana independiente, canta en 5 idiomas y en sus 10 años de carrera ha cantado en más de 30 países. Un verdadero amor por la música que no se limita al deseo de éxito “No busco la fama. Por supuesto que es maravilloso cantar frente a miles de personas, pero lo que busco y por lo que vivo es la emoción de hacer música, de cantar, de elegir siempre nuevos retos y caminos para superarme.”
Osvaldo ha crecido, desde la última vez que apareció en nuestra portada de Adelante (2021) y han pasado muchas cosas “tanto en la música como en mi vida privada” – dice “mis canciones siempre han sido un espejo exacto de las cosas que he vivido y estos últimos tres años han sido verdaderas oleadas emocionales. Perdí repentinamente a un querido amigo, me enamoré y tuve que lidiar con una fuerte depresión que me llevó a donde nunca quise estar.” Los medios italianos prestaron mucha atención a su hospitalización hace unos meses: “Fue uno de los peores momentos de mi vida y estoy muy avergonzado, sobre todo por el dolor que causé a las personas que me quieren, a mi familia”. Pero especialmente a mí mismo. La verdad es que nadie nos enseña nunca a amarnos y siempre sigue siendo lo más difícil de hacer”.
Pero la música avanzaba constantemente “Estaba de gira por Europa cuando comencé a sentirme muy mal, pero el pico más grande fue después del final de mi relación. Creí en él e invertí mucho, vi un futuro con él y en cambio “Mi darlo todo se convirtió en una adicción que también me llevó a perdonar sus traiciones y faltas de respeto. Es absurdo cómo las cosas que muchas veces más nos importan son las que más nos pueden hacer daño”. Y es precisamente de esta experiencia que nació “Te e Me”, el sencillo (por primera vez en italiano), también publicado en español “Tu y Yo” “que escribí junto a Paulina Aguirre (ganadora de múltiples Grammys) y habla del momento exacto en el que una pareja se separa y del nuevo vínculo que nace entre estas dos personas, no importa quién dejó a quién, pero por un momento ambos experimentan los mismos sentimientos de dudas, miedos sobre el futuro y el peso de los recuerdos de una relación importante.
A pesar de lo personal que es, la letra nació en el momento en que menos estaba pensando en la situación y se completó en unos minutos. Cuando lo releí me dije ¡guau! ¡Esta es toda mi historia! Es increíble cómo la música puede profundizar en nuestro interior”. El regreso de Osvaldo es muy esperado por todos sus fans alrededor del mundo y no quiso decepcionar “estuvieron cerca de mí en los momentos más difíciles para mí, sin saberlo y nuestra conexión es verdadera, auténtica”. Es por eso el cantante apuntó alto “a pesar de que todos me dicen: ahora hay que parar y darse tiempo, no hagas esto, no hagas aquello, pero yo creí en mí y seguí adelante”.
Su participación en el Festival de Cine de Venecia con un vestido hecho con más de 30,000 perlas, el lanzamiento de “It Takes a Fool To Remain Sane”, su presentación en los Latin Grammy (donde cautivó a todos con un maravilloso traje dorado), y luego continuar con el lanzamiento del nuevo proyecto directamente en los Billboards de Times Square. Y luego la gran noticia “un día en noviembre recibí una llamada desde Chile y me dijeron “Estamos orgullosos de decirte que te hemos elegido entre 600 canciones y nos gustaría que representaras a Italia en el Festival de Viña del Mar”. En ese preciso momento no pode conprenderlo. Fue una gran noticia para mí, tanto que les pedí que me la repitieran.
Ha tenido un amor por la cultura latina que se ha mantenido durante años y que le ha permitido a Osvaldo explorar nuevos territorios pero siempre manteniendo su identidad. Dice que al principio, muchos le aconsejaron que no hablara de su vida privada, que no hablara de su homosexualidad. “Me parecía tan injusto mentir por dinero. Cualquier objetivo que hubiera logrado, nunca lo experimentaría realmente como tal si supiera que hay una mentira. Y así ya no escuchaba esas voces, al contrario, comencé a compartir información e historias tanto como fuera posible especialmente a través de mis canciones. no sé hasta qué punto esto me quitó oportunidades, o si todavía lo hace, pero cuando me encuentro con personas años después que me dicen “gracias, gracias a tus canciones logré salir”, entonces estoy mas seguro de que tomé la decisión correcta.”
Son muchos los premios que el artista italiano ha recibido en los últimos años: 2 Premios Nickeclip, Premio Unicef, Premio Mei, Premio Zonika Chicago, Premio Renaissance Amsterdam, Ganador de 2 Laiffa Premios en Los Ángeles, Mejor Artista Revelación en el Miami Latino Hispano y, entre muchos discos, es el único italiano que ha sido nominado 3 veces a los BT Digital Music Awards. Colaboraciones con algunos de los músicos más importantes de la música pop, incluidos Tempo Stokes (Productor de Jennifer Lopez), Scott Robinson (Demi Lovato, Christina Aguilera), Ferras (Katy Perry, Britney Spears), pero a pesar de todo Osvaldo sigue siendo la persona más humilde como Siempre, es de esas personas que te recibe con una verdadera sonrisa, te abraza y te agradece sinceramente el tiempo dedicado a él. “There were times when I wanted to give up. Terrible days which I saw nothing but pain” – says Osvaldo Supino – “but then life somehow makes itself real again, it kicks you, and you have to get up. You have to use all your resources and get back on your feet.”
Osvaldo Supino is the most awarded and recognized Italian artist abroad, a true pioneer of independent Italian music, he sings in 5 languages. In his 10-year career he has played in over 30 countries. He has a true love for music that doesn’t stop at the desire for success, “I’m not looking for fame. Of course it’s wonderful to sing in front of thousands of people, but what I’m looking for and what I live for is the satisfaction and joy of making music, of singing, always choosing new challenges and ways to improve myself.”
Osvaldo has grown since the last time he appeared on the cover of Adelante Magazine (2021) and many things have happened to him “as much in music as in my private life” – he says. “My songs have always been an exact mirror of the things I have experienced and these last three years have been real emotional waves. I lost a dear friend suddenly, I fell in love and I had to deal with heavy depression that took me where I nev
wanted to be.” Supino says the Italian media focused a lot of attention about his recent hospitalization: “It was one of the worst moments of my life and I’m very ashamed of it, especially for the pain I caused the people who love me, my family. But especially to myself. The truth is that no one ever teaches us to love each other and it always remains the most difficult thing to do.”
But the music constantly moved forward for Supino. “I was on tour in Europe when I started to feel really bad, but the biggest peak was at the end of my relationship. I believed in him and invested a lot, I saw a future with him. But my giving everything to him and the relationship turned into an addiction that also led me to forgive his betrayals and lack of respect.” “It’s absurd how the things we often care about most are those that can hurt us the most.”
And it is precisely from this experience that “Te e Me” was born, the single (for the first time in Italian) and also published in Spanish “Tu y Yo”. “I wrote it together with Paulina Aguirre (multi Grammy winner) and it speaks of the exact moment in which a couple separates and the new bond that is born between these two people. It doesn’t matter who left who, but for a moment they both experience the same feelings of doubt, fear about the future and the weight of the memories of a relationship.”
“As personal as it is, the text was born at the moment when I was least thinking about the situation and it was completed in a few minutes”. Supino says “when I reread it I thought to myself wow! This is my whole story!” “It’s incredible how music can delve inside ourselves.”
Osvaldo’s return is much awaited by all his fans around the world and he did not want to disappoint. “They were close to me during the hardest moments, even without knowing it and our connection is true, authentic”. This is why the singer aimed high despite everyone telling him to stop and give hisself time. “But I believed in myself and moved forward”.
His participation in the Venice Film Festival with a dress made of over 30,000 pearls, the release of “It Takes a Fool To Remain Sane”, his hosting at the Latin Grammys (where he enchanted everyone in a wonderful golden outfit), and his launch of the new project directly on the Billboards in Times Square came quickly. And then he received great news, “one day in November I received a phone call from Chile and they told me I had been chosen from among 600 songs to represent Italy at the Vina del Mar Festival. At that precise moment I could not comprehend it. It was big news for me so much so that I asked them to repeat it.”
Supino has had a love for Latin culture for years which has allowed Osvaldo to explore new territories while always maintaining his identity. He says at the beginning of his career, many advised him not to talk about his private life, not to talk about his homosexuality. “It seemed so unfair to me to lie for money. Any goal I’d achieved I would never really experience it as such if I knew there was a lie. And so I no longer listened to those voices, on the contrary, I started sharing information and stories as much as possible, especially through my songs. I don’t know if this took away opportunities from me, or if it still does, but when I meet people years later who thank me, and tell me my songs helped them come out, then I’m more certain I made the right decision about being open.”
