1. Stay on PrEP:
If you’re on PrEP, continue taking it daily to prevent HIV. Don’t skip doses, even during travel or holiday events.

2. Know Your Status:
Get tested for STDs and HIV before and after the holiday season, especially if engaging in new sexual activity.

3. Practice Safe Sex:
Use condoms and other forms of protection to reduce the risk of HIV and STDs, even in casual encounters.

4. Limit Alcohol & Drugs:
Substance use can lead to risky behaviors. Be mindful of how much you consume at holiday parties.

5. Maintain Mental Health:
The holidays can bring stress and loneliness. Reach out to friends, LGBTQ support groups, or a mental health professional if needed.

6. Stick to Your Medications: Keep up with all prescribed medications, including for any chronic conditions or mental health, even during busy holiday times.

7. Avoid Binge Eating:
With holiday treats around, try to maintain a balanced diet to stay physically and mentally healthy.

8. Exercise Regularly:
Physical activity can help relieve stress and improve your mood during the holidays, especially if dealing with family tensions or holiday pressures.

9. Be Cautious When Traveling: If you’re traveling for the holidays, research the local LGBTQ laws and healthcare options, especially in places where LGBTQ rights may be limited.

10. Create a Support Network: Surround yourself with supportive people, whether friends, a partner, or LGBTQ groups, to navigate any challenges the holidays may bring. Set healthy boundaries with family and friends, especially those that are not supportive and contribute stress to your life. Have an exit strategy to get yourself out of stressful situations. The holidays can strain romantic or family relationships. Stay open and honest about your feelings and needs.

So celebrate on your own terms and have a safe and wonderful holiday season! Love, Dr. Jerry
